I hope this is the right place, because this server is the one that I
see this WU got scored at, and since 1:09 AM PST today I've not gotten
credit for the WU...
this should have been plenty of time for Stanford
and this server to report my completed WU, and it just hasn't happened. :? :(

I will post my log below, so you can see that my Team and identity are
100% accounted for on this WU, so I should have gotten credit for the WU
in MY name, and Team,
and it just hasn't happened yet today...should have
happened no later than the 6AM update. :e?:

Re: 171.64.65.64:8080 & 2653 WU Completed, but NO Credit!

Post by rexrzer »

Well, like MaGiC, since I posted this note, the WU has been scored!

Thank You Stanford, for checking up on that server and fixing it so quickly, it's appreciated very much!! :!: :o

If that's what happened, anyway...if not, could someone please clue me in as to why it took 15+ hours to get that 2653 WU scored at Stanford, then at EOC? However it occurred, I'm very grateful, but also curious as to why it took so long, and should I expect the same thing to happen with the next WU for the C2Duo 1.66Ghz CPU also? As you could see from its log above, the next WU is also a 2653...the assignment server is apparently on a roll with the 2653 WU to SMP Beta Testers like myself in the Windows group!

If this is the nature of the beast, so to speak, so be it, plus I'd hate to have to be doing this again, for no good reason, yah? :eugeek:

In any case, thanks to Stanford/Pande Group for scoring the WU finally, it's appreciated very, very much!!

Cheers,
rexrzer 8-)

Par for the course. At best, Stanford Stats servers update each hour, and then send out the update to 3rd party stats every 3 hours, for a possible total of 4 hours. But if they are having problems, the updates might only go out twice a day. If credit is not received within 24 hours, then bug a Mod or Admin to check it for you. Otherwise, practice your virtues. ;)

Ah-hah! No, 7im, I didn't know of the troubles...

I have now bookmarked "the news pages" for FAH, and will check it often.

I'd have waited until tomorrow to check this out normally, if it were one of my Macs especially. But it was the 2nd WU for my newest addition, a little 1.66Ghz C2Duo CPU in an Acer notebook, and I was genuinely concerned that there was a problem with my SMP Preferences/configuration since I went back into that particular unit's programming yesterday after a session updating the drivers on the machine, and somehow managed to get it back up and working...still don't really know how I did it! :?:

I was concerned that I'd screwed up the ability to score it in my name somehow=abnormal amount of apprehension on my part, which won't be repeated again...tell you what, I'll go grab a Valium next time and count to 1000 backward, and forwards a couple times!

The Windows SMP Beta client is all new, and a learning experience for me personally, just having put the 2 notebooks online in the past 2 weeks. I've never had to deal with the command line/console so much getting the client up and running smoothly, so it's somewhat of a miracle that I have the two CPU's configured correctly at all. :o

I don't think that WU has been credited :

Hi rexrzer (team 38910),
Your WU (P2653 R34 C37 G111) was added to the stats database on 2009-02-14 03:25:57 for 0 points of credit.

The entry in DB indicates "Days taken to complete WU: 0.09" which is not consistent with your message : "[08:59:13] Unit 2 finished with 20 percent of time to deadline remaining."

Hello Mr. toTOW;

Well, that's not right then Mr. toTOW! :o :?

What do I do now? :?: At the 9PM update yesterday I got credited 1732 points, for something...now I don't know what after your post...only the nice people on the inside of FAH could tell us that answer.

Could someone on the Pande Group please check up on the server, and see what it's doing? All that I know is that on Sunday, at about 1AM PST, that particular unit completed with 20% of the time left on the clock, so I should have gotten full credit for it. I had the notebook down for almost 14 hours while I updated the drivers in it (22 of them!...I just got the notebook, and everything was never updated by the previous owner, drivers, the Vista OS, the works), which took some doing. If I hadn't had it down for all that time it would have completed in the 40% time frame, as it did with its 1st unit.

I honestly don't know what to think, or do, right now. Any help from the Pande Group would be appreciated at this time--because if that server is messed up, not scoring WU's like it should, then I'm not alone. :!:

Cheers,

This machine doesn't seem to have returned another WU ... here is the last entry for it :

Code: Select all

CPUid	IP Address	team	cpu type	cpu species	os type	os species	Last credit	Last returned WU	Proj	Run	Clone	Gen
1EBF42E46AXXXXXX6A XX.XX.XX.242 38910 x86 Pentium 2 or 3 Windows - 0 2009-02-14 03:25:57 2653 34 37 111
With the informations I have, I can't tell if that's a stat error, or if something was wrong on your side ...

Hello Mr. toTOW;

Thank you for trying to figure out what is going on with the machine(s)..both mine and the server. :)

The post you just made identifies the CPU as being "Pentium" when, in fact, it's a C2Duo, so that's weird... :?

Also, if you'll be so kind as to view again the 1st post here by yours truly, I am clearly identified in the chain of data from my CPU as "rexrzer" from "Team 38910", along with my unique user ID from FAH.

I don't know what else I could do to show that my configuration is aok fine, other than have you view that data. I have gone through the configuration files twice--just to make certain that there isn't some glaring mistake on my part, and to my knowledge I have done configuration exactly, thoroughly, by the book, just like the Installation Guide here tells us to do.

The CPU is merrily crunching another 2653 WU right now, and it's still configured exactly as it was for the WU in question, exactly as it was for its 1st WU, which was credited OK AFAIK, the present WU being its 3rd. I honestly have no idea what I need to do to *make certain* that I have done everything right, both for myself and my Team's benefit.

I am presently the No.1 producer on our modest Team of Mac Enthusiasts, and this Windows CPU adventure that I'm on right now is simply another effort to garner a few extra points each week...with these two identically configured Acer 5920-series notebooks, both with C2Duo CPU's, one 1.66Ghz and one 2.5Ghz.

They both seem to be doing well with the SMP Beta Windows Client, honestly they do! :!: But am I getting credit where credit is due, that's the question? :?:

I am a bit confused as to whether the server is doing something out of character with my WU's, or if I have done something incorrect in my configuration. I must point out that both Acer notebooks show the same command line attribution, with my user name, my Team name, and my unique ID being the same. All data from my command line view is the same!

If I configure the Client correctly from my CPU's, isn't that all that I am responsible for?

Isn't the rest up to Stanford and the servers there? I think all is well on my end, honestly I do...I'm just too careful and conservative to not notice something being amiss from my end...I am correctly identified by the CPU at the beginning sequence of each WU, so I really don't know what else I could do, or check out at this point.

I remain confident that my part of this equation is done correctly, and that there is something uniquely amiss with that server or my WU's would be getting credited to my Team and myself without incidents--apprently that is not what is going on presently. :!:

I will do whatever you suggest that I do, at this point, if it's reasonable and backed up by the FAH Team at Stanford...I would be very reluctant (with good reason to be so) to change anything in my configuration right now, though...I hope you understand that.

Cheers,

The Pentium designation means nothing. The Mod database tries to interpret the hardware from the data sensed by the client but the code that interprets the data has not been updated for many years. A Core2 wasn't even invented, nor were the current crop of GPUs. We just ignore that data anyway since it doesn't change anything with respect to credits.

In the future, when you have trouble with a single WU, use that WUs designation for the title and post in the forum for specific WUs. By using a title specifying a server and posting in the forum for a specific server, we assume that you've troubles connecting to that server and that others will have similar troubles.

I've changed the title and moved the discussion.

Hi Bruce;

We meet again over some incomprehensible situation with a WU and a server, however...this time....

I guess Mr. toTOW and I were chasing the wrong dragon, from your post this is what I gather in any case.

So, this is a WU issue, and not a server issue...man, now I am 100% up the creek, sorry to say. :egeek: :?

Now let's re-capitulate this thing: I've completed this WU, according to the report from my computer, and all was well as of 1AM PST Saturday morning. Then I thought, after all was said and done, that I DID get credit for it, @about 9PM PST, right after I posted the problem report. I thought that because there was a "miraculous" 1732 points, which I believe is the value for that particular WU, posted at EOC where I keep track of my scores, it being impossible to do that at the regular FAH scoring page for rexrzer because there's no breakdown of points there, just a total.

Then, Mr. toTOW writes that this WU in fact did NOT post, on the server end of things, with the "0-points"-awarded post he showed us in his 2nd post. You are now telling me that this is an issue with THAT WU and NOT the server, is that correct?

Well then, where did that 'miraculous' 1732 points last night come from? Another WU? There is no way I'd know the answer to that because I don't have the ability to see the Stats Server/Assignment Server's output and input, do I? :?:

If you would be so kind, would you, or whomever is in charge of this now, post what is going on right now about this situation, if anything, and could you attempt to explain what I've just written? In my mind I got credit for something last night...That is certain. :o

Please tell me what it was that I got credit for if it wasn't this WU here, thank you very much. :)

Cheers,
rexrzer 8-)

I guess Bruce isn't interested in telling me what I asked about, or he's too busy...whatever... :?:

I'll try asking one more time...Bruce, could you please fill me in on this WU once and for all? Just sort of get if over with so I could go on with my Folding with these notebooks, or would you prefer that I give up and stop with the Windows Beta SMP Client, since I don't know if my WU's are getting credited? I am serious as a heart attack about this: it's a lot of CPU time with to fold one of the SMP Beta Windows Clients, and I guess we'll never know about this WU unless some admin. figures it out! I can't do it, this is certain, that's about all I know.

Point is, I still do NOT know if I actually received credit for this WU: according to Mr. toTOW, who posted that it had not scored for me, and left me hanging in mid-air--then Bruce moved the topic from the Server area to this WU area of the Forum. :?:

Oh, one of the notebooks just finished with its 3rd 2653 WU, to be specific it's this one:

[05:26:24] Folding@home Core Shutdown: FINISHED_UNIT
[05:26:27] CoreStatus = 64 (100)

That notebook is now chomping on a new 2665 SMP Beta Windows WU, so that's a pleasant change.

It would be real nice if either Mr. toTOW or Bruce would check up on the just finished 2663 tonight, or tomorrow morning, just to be safe, and sure, and certain about this situation...if it doesn't score in the next 12 hours that would be great! :D
