I removed the CPU core restarting itself half a dozen times during the download to make the log cleaner (it really should not be doing that, I know there's a bug report for that somewhere). I saw this error twice in total. This is a very strange error to get from a server, to say the least. Debugging output including JSON sent to the server available if needed.

This is a server error, not a client error. The client is just correctly reporting what the server returned, which was "503 Internal Server Error" with the reply body "Can't dereference NULL pointer!".

fahclient dev is server dev ;)
You can pretend that you don't know what a hell is EOF (or dereference NULL pointer) in the log and explain your problem. You might get explained that this is server issue and not client, but dev will get the message that there is an issue with the server ;)

Does this message appear if you are using non debug client?

I've stripped out the debug lines manually, so none of the lines I posted are the debug log level.

Technically I'm not using the debug client, I just built the client with a few changes to it and cbang to enable debug messages without the other debugging features (basically making the preprocessor keep CBANG_LOG_DEBUG even when NDEBUG was set), so the client's behavior is unchanged. I can switch back to the precompiled client, but the error only occurred twice, so I don't know if I can reproduce it.
