eGPU and folding

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

eGPU and folding

Post by ilpostino »

I hope I am posting this is the right part of the forum.

I recently bought a Blackmagic eGPU pro that I have installed and used on my Surface pro with windows 11. Is it possible to use the eGPU for folding when I am not using the Surface pro?

Yes, as long as everything is recognised as actual GPU

Just be aware that the lower bandwidth of the Thunderbolt connection to the eGPU can limit folding performance (it claim 40 Gb/s, but the PCIe connection of a dedicated GPU is >100 Gb/s). It won't decrease efficiency, but it can decrease maximum utilization of the card.

I finally ot around to test ut out on my Surface pro. It is recognised by the computer, and the latest AMD Adrelanin is installed. But it is greyed out in the web application.

go to adrenalin control panel, click on the cog in right top corner, expand Software & Driver Details on the right hand side. See what it says about various API support
