5102 (R0, C51, G68) completed, uploaded but no points - why?

Post by shunter »

The above unit was completed and uploaded yesterday at approx 12.18 pm (GMT) - just within the deadlines and although number of completed units increased no points were added to my total. This has happened before and I've not been too bothered but as I went to some effort to switch the unit from one Ubuntu pc to another Ubuntu pc to ensure it completed in time and it's worth 3,340 points I am a tad miffed. I am not aware of any server issues and have included an extract from the fah log below. Any ideas what has happened?

Hi shunter (team 46590),
Your WU (P5102 R0 C51 G68) was added to the stats database on 2010-03-02 05:03:13 for 0 points of credit.

The DB indicates that this WU was completed very quickly (5 minutes between assignment and reception of the results) or your client might have tried to submit this WU multiple times, although I only see one record in the DB.

The server probably detected that the machine that returned the WU did not match with the one that processed it ...

Hi toTOW,
Thanks for looking this up - I guess its because I moved the unit to a different pc which is disappointing as I've done it in the past (admittedly some time ago) and cannot recollect having this issue.

I'm getting a little frustrated as I seem to lose a unit every day or so and cannot work out why - at the moment, I seem to have lost another 1,888 point GPU unit but as I've submitted 5 today I cannot work out which has gone astray.

There are new security features that impact sneakernetting. The WU must be uploaded with the same System ID and Machine ID as that downloaded the WU. I.E. Move the WU back to upload, and do not download a new WU with that client until the finished WU is uploaded.

Thanks for the explanation 7im - now I have to google sneakernetting???

The annoying thing is that I was trying to ensure the unit was completed in time but to transfer it to a faster pc and then leave the original doing nothing until the unit completes and is transferred back for upload is really too much effort as it could be in the middle of the night. Sadly, its better to kill off that unit and start again.
Thanks again

Fah sneakernetting - seems like a whole heap of torture to me. Thanks for the link and the help provided.

Now for the fun - have added passkeys to my accounts and managed to destroy one fah config file and, being really smart, I forgot to copy it first.

If your editing the client.cfg file with a text editor to add your passkey, you shouldn't. The proper way is by starting the client with the -configonly flag.

I know - now. I'm afraid I'm not very experienced and ignored the advice about editing config but could not remember how to run the client manually when its a service one. I've downloaded a newer version and have run that manually to create a new config so I'll see what happens on upload - it's picked up the unit ok and is running with it. Also now found out that passkeys do npot apply to Playstaions - yet.

Thanks for the help
