Does extra cache of 5800X3D benefit folding or not?

The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D has an extra layer of cache stacked on top of the CPU, which does benefit performance in some games and applications, but has a tradeoff of lower peak clock speeds, which means worse performance than the 5800X in other applications. The statistics gathered so far by the dark mode Chrome extension seems to suggest that the extra cache does not benefit folding:

https://folding.lar.systems/projects/fo ... file/16995

5800X: Average PPD per logical processor: 31,998
5800X3D: Average PPD per logical processor: 28,557

This data might be skewed by variations of software and hardware between the folders. Does this match the folding performance of other 5800X3D owners?

On the flip side, I have a couple of Ryzen 5700G machines that do CPU folding well (Ubuntu 20.04.4).
They have 8 real cores and 16 virtual cores also (the same as the 5800X), but only 16 MB of L3 cache, half of the 5800X.

I am seeing around 350 kPPD on average, though at the moment 380 kPPD on P16959 and 438 kPPD on P16977, which are on the high output side.

lar is completely pointless for CPU comparison.
5800x3d does benefit FAH, it is equal or much better than 5800x core for core. In some projects those two CPUs are identical, in others - 3D just takes off.
Now, 5950x (when it is not WHEA erroring out) is still king of the hill, but 5800x3D does well core for core

The x3D has a 200Mhz lower boost speed than the 5800.
It's also overpriced (sold at 2xMSRP).
You're better off either a higher core count processor lie the 5900x, which goes much closer to MSRP.

Now now. 5800x3d is not selling at 2x MSRP. I see exactly same price as an MSRP in UK. They are sold out, mind you, but pre orders are at their quoted prices.
5800x3d is at worst equal to 5800x at best quite a bit faster. I'm very impressed with mine.

Not over here, where they are sold at $750 and up on Amazon, while MSRP is closer to $360 or something.

Should check current prices first, MSRP for the 5800x3d is $449 and is what AMD would charge if you bought directly from them. There are several places besides Amazon with them in stock for less than $500. A short search on Amazon showed a 3rd party seller at $645.

Let's ignore scalpers ;) People SHOULD buy either from AMD directly or through reputable e-tailer/retailer.

Just checked Newegg, looks to be in stock for $468.
