Failed to create OpenCL context

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Failed to create OpenCL context

Post by jchang6 »

Intel 11th Gen Core i7=11700K, Windows 11
gpu:3:0 Navi 10 [Radeon RX 5600 OEM/5600 XT/5700/5700 XT]
folding on the CPU works fine
for GPU, fah downloads a work unit, generates error below, retries several times, then marks the GPU as failed
any ideas ?

ps,
I am in close competition for the 34 or 35th monthly spot, this extra video card could push me to 33,
btw, the RTX 3080 Ti is fabulous, between 4-8M PPD depending on workload - can't wait to get another

Would you mind posting the most recent 200 lines of your F@H log, starting at the point where it looks something like this:

If you were attempting to fold with the CPU's integrated graphics processor, you can download the latest drivers from Intel here:

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... 0-ghz.html

Look for v30.0.100.9805, which is the most recent stable version available. And note that it is also for Windows 11.

Let me know if this helps.

folding does not recognize the 11th gen Intel GPU, but it does clearly see the AMD gpu:3:0 Navi 10 [Radeon RX 5600 OEM/5600 XT/5700/5700 XT]
I have tried various combinations, using the intel GPU for display, nothing connected to the RX 5600, and also display connected to RX 5600.
the intel gpu is UHD Graphics 750
the RX5600 should be on 28.2, which seeems to work for Folding on some older AMD gpu's

unrelated, I have a couple of 10th gen Intel CPUs with iGPU, but in gaming motherboards which do no have display ports. so apparently the iGPU is not detected? is this disabled by the BIOS/UEFI? it would be nice if it could be activated for folding, even though no video connections exist

Yes. That is something that can be set in the UEFI (as with the AMD Ryzen 3/5 CPU's that have a built in iGPU.

There is also a setting in the UEFI for selecting the discrete GPU (your card) as the primary video output device. Look in your users manual, as the setting location may vary from brand to brand.

And BTW: F@H on an Intel GPU/iGPU is still undergoing refinements. One of the Moderator's, or Project Managers may be able to help you with this.

ok, I will look into the BIOS settings, one is a ASUS ROG, another MSI MEG.
but why did you think it was folding on an Intel GPU?
is that what this means?

I will look on one of my working AMD GPU systems to see what the messages are.
how do I get it to fold on the AMD GPU?

also, one of my systems was folding on the intel iGPU, but since then, it said there were no available work units,

Have you installed the most current AMD GPU Drivers (from AMD)? If not, then let's go here: https://www.amd.com/en/support to start with.

Just thought of something, check your UEFI settings to see if there is one that enables discovery of a discrete graphics card in the PCIe Slots....

yes I am using the latest AMD driver 21.8.2. The RX5600 is properly detected by the system, the driver installs correctly. FaH detects the card correctly, successfully downloads work units,
but this is where the above messages occur

When you attempt to start another WU, try capturing the most recent 200 lines from the log, after unchecking the filter boxes. As I am not seeing the information in the log that is related to the AMD card, and the error messages that are being logged.

We are all saying you MUST download the drivers directly form AMD, you are only saying I have a Driver. I would bet we will hound you until you tell us where you got your driver.

To elaborate, "19:17:30:WU02:FS01:0x22:No compatible OpenCL platform is available" indicates that your drivers do not include the OpenCL component needed by F@H. The AMD video drivers provided by Microsoft through Windows Update will allow your GPU to render to a display, but they do not include OpenCL. For that, you need to download the video drivers direct from AMD.
