Can't Earn Points/Contribute to Team

Post by Asera0603 »

Hello, I'm new to this and have no idea what I did wrong, but I have been folding for almost a week and no matter what I can't get any points nor contribute anything to my team. I started on one team then made my own and moved everything across. Sadly, I must have messed something up as no matter what I do nothing gets completed despite my laptop working at 100%. I'm just frustrated and feel like this should not be so difficult. What am I doing wrong or what can I do to fix this?

Even when I get close to like 90%, for no reason it just resets and goes back to like 2%.... I'm about ready to just give up.

Normally speaking, points are awarded when a WU is completed and the results are uploaded. It does not appear that any have been completed by ascera0603. The red fact indicates an error occurred but we can't tell what actually happened unless you post your log per the instructions shown below.

Is your system overclocked?

No, my system is not overclocked and is just running off of a low power intel celeron 3350. I will have to check the logs tonight to see what occurred or what went wrong. I didn't realize it would be this difficult and I guess I'll need to attempt to reinstall it tonight.

Welcome to the forums.

My guess would be that the cpu hasn't been finishing wus within expiry - looks like a long expiry date gpu is currently running on a single core and should complete within expiration, but if previous wus were shprter deadlines this might be the issue? - your log might clarify this (the link in bruce's sig block above will help you find/upload this) .. the gpu may not be folding without the beta gpu flag set as think that is an intel igpu? - bruce might be able to confirm that but again the log may give indications of what is happening.

At this point reinstalling shouldn't be necessary - might just be a settings issue ... If you can post you log (including the top with the system information) we might be able to assist better.

I will have to look into that tonight since I'm at work. You are correct that it's an iGPU...I just wish I had more to troubleshoot since apparently my computer has just been running for a week and has wasted energy without producing a single results. I don't know if since I registered with another team first (and entered some key) if that messed everything up when switching to a team I created.

If all of your WUs were from Project 16927, there is a known problem with points not being credited. It is on WS 129.32.209.201, see this topic - viewtopic.php?f=18&t=36579. It is being looked into, no idea when the problem will be found and corrected.

Thanks for the info. I'll go home and switch projects and see if that does anything.

switching projects is not something you have much control over tbh - you can state a preference at best.

If you see entries in your logs that show the upload was completed successfully and mentions estimated points then your wus have been uploaded and even is held up in the current stats blockage they will turn up ... Please not that the estimated points may include what is call the quick return bonus - which you have to successfully return 10 wus before you become entitled to so may overstate the points until you have returned enough wus.

posting you log will allow us to confirm one way or other - and to hopefully sort out the gpu with you :)

More information about points, qrb and passkey (which is advisable) see https://foldingathome.org/support/faq/points/ - some details are a tad out of date but for the most part it may help clarify points.

So I looked back at my specific work unit I started on and that was: 16927 (16, 939, 75)
Currently, I'm now running: 16927 (23, 1983, 4)

Does that mean I have actually completed a work unit and that I'm just not getting any credit?

your log will show if it completed ... either post it here and we can help/advise or look for for the wu getting to 100% then sending to ws/cs then a uploaded successfully message with an estimated points line.

what it means for certain is that you are currently working on a different wu than you were - what happened in between is without a log purely speculation.

... it is entirely possible you have completed wus and the points are just in a stats blockage (such blockages can last days/weeks or even in bad cases months) and if so the the points will turn up when the stats blockage is resolved.

... it is also entirely possible that there is an issue and that previous wus are not being upload - only the log can tell us this at this time.

Very likely: nothing, but at this point we can't tell until you post the log.

So I see at least one successful upload so you have completed at least one wu which probably means your cpu slot is working fine and the points are simply in the stats blockage on that server... however without the top of the log i can't see what is happening with the gpu slot ... if you can post the top 100 lines or so of the log with the system configuration details we can try and resolve that

Re: Can't Earn Points/Contribute to Team

Post by Asera0603 »

I wanted to post a quick update - I was able to successfully complete my first work unit after some more testing and verifying my laptop was communicating with the server. I suspect, as has been suggested by others, that my points are stuck on that server and will hopefully appear within a week or so (and not months).

Additionally, there's no need to worry about the GPU not working - it'a a 7th gen (Apollo Lake I believe) iGPU so it is not supported. I'm going to get a raspberry pi setup tonight to begin folding as well. I hope it won't be too difficult to install, but I'll do my best. I'm not a linux expert, but on my fav laptop I use Manjaro.

Anyways, thanks for the help thus far and hopefully I can keep moving up in my team's rankings.

Stats are all over the place at the moment - many topics on the subject - but the team will get them back up and running as soon as they can.

It is possible to remove the iGPU slot and then put an expert setting in that stops the device from auto creating gpu slots if you are interested ... this would remove the slot from the web and advanced control views and might make it cleaner/clearer ... I'll track down a recent post by bruce that stated how to do this much clearer than I can ... I'll edit this post once I find it :)

You will see bruce's solution (which is better than mine) in this thread.
2x Xeon E5-2697v3, 512GB DDR4 LRDIMM, SSD Raid, W10-Ent, Quadro K420
Xeon E3-1505Mv5, 32GB DDR4, NVME, W10-Pro, Quadro M1000M
i7-960, 12GB DDR3, SSD, W10-Pro, GTX1080Ti
i9-10850K, 64GB DDR4, NVME, W11-Pro, RTX3070
