GeForce 1650 disabled

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

GeForce 1650 disabled

Post by valkraider »

Hello,

I have a brand new computer with Windows 10, and it won't fold on my Nvidia GeForce 1650 GPU, it is disabled.

I have tried the current Nvidia driver, as well as every version back as far as it will let me (For example driver 441.28 won't install, it is not compatible with the current patch version of windows 10).

Any ideas?

I would delete the present drivers and just let Windows install the version it likes. It will likely be 432.00. I have seen a few cases lately where FAH only folds with the drivers automatically installed by Windows.

Otherwise, please post you log, so that we can have a look at the configuration and FAH error messages: viewtopic.php?p=327412&f=24#p327412

I have 2 GTX 1650 Low Profile cards folding in PCs, so in general it works.

I am on the latest driver and the latest Windows 10

I hope to see the first 200 lines of your log!

Re: GeForce 1650 disabled

When I "uninstall" the video card and select "uninstall driver" so it defaults back to the windows driver, it uses version driver 457.30. I am now going try to force a real uninstall by deleting files and registry keys. Stay tuned...

I checked, and my GPUs.txt is there and current (I just downloaded the whole FAH app last night on a brand new computer).

I have tried also Nvidia drivers 451.77, 451.48, anything older than that (back at 442.19 or prior) and it won't let me install the driver saying it is incompatible with my version of windows.

I have tried both studio and game ready versions, I prefer studio because the user interface and messaging is much more usable - less designed for adolescent boys - and the "Nvidia control panel" is better than the game ready desktop app that is really annoying...

The message about disabling the GPU slot is something I would expect if the client detected an Intel iGPU that was not currently usable for general folding. However, your i5-10400F is one of the few Intel Core i5 processors that does not include an iGPU. It is possible the client misdirected the hardware, not quite sure how to go about fixing that.

Yeah, when I "force" uninstall the drivers by deleting the files, and going back to letting Windows set up its own driver, it gets me 446.14 - but still doesn't work.

No matter what I keep getting
WARNING:FS01:Disabling beta GPU slot 01: gpu:1:0 TU117 [GeForce GTX 1650] 3091. Beta GPUs can be tested for no points by setting ``gpu-beta=true`` in the configuration.

I think that the problem is here:

Code: Select all

17:11:32:WARNING:FS01:Disabling beta GPU slot 01: gpu:1:0 TU117 [GeForce GTX 1650] 3091. Beta GPUs can be tested for no points by setting ``gpu-beta=true`` in the configuration.
Now, looking at https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt, your card has 1 as the last field of the code (field1:field2:field3:field4), that is "no DP support":

Code: Select all

0x10de:0x2188:2:1:TU117 [GeForce GTX 1650] 3091
I'm not sure, actually, as this system of GPU identification has been changed recently, but as I remember, the last code is higher, at least 5, for cards with DP (double precision) support (which FAH needs). Now I don't know whether this a glitch in gpus.txt or really a characteristic of that card. Other flavors of the 1650 have a field4 = 7. Only this one seems not to have DP support.

That could be the problem, a typo getting that entry into the GPUs.txt file. Possibly a "7" misread as a "i". I will bring that to the attention of the file maintainers.

Windows installs the driver and a version of OpenCL which may someday be supported by FAH on the Intel iGPU. At present, they're strictly available for testing with the setting mentioned above ... and for zero points.

The GeForce 1650 is supported PROVIDED you download the driver package from nVidia. Reinstalling whatever version (or greater) Windows decided to install will be fine. The problem you're having is that Windows UNINSTALLS the nVidia version of OpenCL if it's present. FAH requires that version and it comes with the package you can download from nvidia.com.

NVidia's optional features are not required and you can either uncheck them or accept the default setting. I tend to uncheck them since nVidia does a lot of updating to every new game requires support. Windows requires an updated driver only rarely and FAH is happy with almost any version that Windows and nVidia are happy with.

I am not sure I understand your statement here.

I mentioned above, I have downloaded and installed at least 8 versions of the drivers directly from Nvidia (4 "studio" and 4 "game ready"), as well as tried the "default" windows one. None of which to any success. How is windows removing the OpenCL? Wouldn't this be a problem for everyone?

I do prefer the "studio" versions because the software that comes with the "game ready" versions seems like it is designed for middle school boys.

Yes, if Windows updates the video driver, everyone quits working until they re-install from nvidia.com. it is a royal pain.

If this ends up being the culprit, what would I need to do? Will FAH pick up the new file automatically, or will I need to manually watch and force update somehow?

Once there is a corrected version on the server, you can delete your version and it will get the correct version from the server. The server needs to be correct first.

Normally, it updates about once a month, but deleting the local version will trigger an update. So wait for someone to admit they changed it on the server.

Guys, I am facing EXACTLY the same problem. I bought a new TU117 GTX 1650 in addition to my existing GTX 1060 and am seeing it being disabled with the same msg:

Code: Select all

WARNING:FS01:Disabling beta GPU slot 01: gpu:1:0 TU117 [GeForce GTX 1650] 3091. Beta GPUs can be tested for no points by setting ``gpu-beta=true`` in the configuration
I bought it extra for folding and am using PopOS 20.4 together with the pop OS Nvidia driver. I believe the driver is NOT the problem as my GTX 1060 is happily folding with that driver.

Code: Select all

Can someone please verify whether the problem is a typo in the GPUs.txt?
