Low GPU utilization

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Low GPU utilization

Post by xmitr »

On my system which has Nvidia RTX3070 and GTX670 gpu's, the utilization when folding (as reported by Task Manager) seems low. In Medium or Full Power (and nothing else active) for the 3070 50% and for the 670 30%. Should this be higher?
Windows 10
Nvidia driver 457.09
FAHClient 7.6.21
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
32 g memory
RTX3070 8 gigs memory
GTX670 2 gigs memory

The task manager doesn't monitor the activity of GPUs that really count for FAH. On my main machine, my 2080ti is folding at around 5M PPD and my 2080S at around 3.5M PPD, but TM announces 0% for both... You can get other results depending on your version of Windows (here: 20H2).
In GPU-Z, the "GPU load" indicated is more trustworthy (here: 92% for the 2080ti and 94% for the 2080S).

You can get the task manager to show GPU compute utilization by right clicking one of the performance graphs for the GPU and changing the sensor to "Compute 0" or "Compute 1", depending on the graphics card. In my case this GPU utilization matches what is shown by the Radeon tool.

What is your motherboard, and which slots have you put the cards in? Can you show the GPU-Z data while folding?

But it won't work (anymore) with Nvidia cards and Win 20H2. With previous versions of Win10, we could select "CUDA", but it's now gone... :e(

I use the GPU-Z monitor tab.

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

it is accurate.

Motherboard is Asus Tuf Gaming X570 Plus Wifi. RTX3070 is in slot 0, GTX670 in slot 1.
I installed GPU-Z and it shows RTX3070 at 80-95%, GTX670 at 95-98%.
Task Manager shows RTX3070 at 20-25%, GTX670 at 25-30%. Don't know what the hell TM is measuring. Also a right click doesn't show those options you mentioned.
The RTX3070 is folding at 3.1M PPD, the GTX670 at 190K PPD. QRB active (apparently)

Not a right clic, just a normal clic on the title of the graph.
