66.170.111.50 & 206.223.170.146 causing duplicates?

Post by Knish »

206.x.x.146 hosts this project https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu?p=142 ... 31&gen=461 [EDIT: looks to only be an issue from generations 458-468]

and i think 66.x.x.50 hosted the 17xxx projects like
https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu?p=174 ... =774&gen=6 [EDIT: seems to happen for many of its clones as well] and
https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu?p=174 ... c=1622&g=3

every once in a while i come across possible duplicates like these, though it could be reuse of project id, but some of them pop up again in a week's time which would be an oddly high turnover rate to be reusing the same id again (at least in my mind)

Generally speaking, reusing Project IDs isn't a norm and is strongly discouraged.

In this specific case, I am aware that the Server hosting those Projects 17400-17406 had to be taken offline before the maintenance period due to electrical issues. Thus, when the Server finally came back up, it would have resulted in some WUs being expired, some sent to CS but didn't transfer back to it in time causing duplicates.

found this one, too. If I recall the oracle hosts may have had some outage issues also, so i guess that may increase the chance of duplicates? Glad it's only sometimes and not the norm.

If the CS doesn't pass WUs back to the WS for any number of reasons (network issue, Server down, Server overloaded, etc) then yes, duplication happens. However, work is always ongoing to reduce that and improve the reliability which has come a long way.
