When I switched my power from medium to light due to heating my laptop just stopped with its folding task even though it was folding before when it was on medium.

When you move the power slider bar down to Light, that will mean that less components in your PC are actively engaged in molecular simulations. So when you move down, your GPU and most of your CPU will stop work in order to only use a little bit on that Light setting. So it's by design and expected. Does that explain what you saw?

If you want to reduce heat and still run your GPU on medium setting then use tools like MSI Afterburner to limit power usage.
