I purchased my computer parts pre covid lockdown with the intent of building multiple VMs. After running many various configurations for my processor, I have found that FAH likes me to not exceed the core count for best performance even with multithreading enabled. Also the best performace was had on Linux mint since I'm using radeon GPUS. for my 3990x I'm folding 4 slots-2 GPU slots 2 CPU slots the cpu slots are running 30 threads and 32 threads respectively. My best day folding on that config is 4Million points in linux. Folding on windows is a disaster because of Numa, the CPU runs hotter by about 10 degrees and each time a new work unit begins there is no indication which node it will go to.
