How do you use your laptop?

If you do anything else other than connect it to a wired Ethernet in a fixed place with ample cooling, it may not be advisable to run the SMP or GPU clients. The SMP client -- especially the MPICH version -- is too sensitive to wireless LAN connection losses. The GPU client has short deadlines, and with less than full-time Folding you may not meet them. Also, the heat of full-time CPU+GPU Folding may overwhelm the system cooling, causing CPU throttling or shutdown, or VPU recovers on the GPU.

Thanks for the response, jrweiss. I basically just use the laptop for folding unless I'm traveling, in which case I also use it for email and checking on some boards, etc. I have the Microsoft loopback adapter on, and that seems to have solved the internet connection issues for the SMP client. The Lenovo cools pretty well, but what are VPU recovers? I've had good performance for the SMP client, and also for GPU 57xxs. The 59xxs give me some problems.

I don't really understand VPU recovers, but they cause a temporary stop/reset of the GPU. You might search here or the ATI site or your Catalyst docs for technical info.

Also, have you set the Environment Variables for the Catalyst drivers to run better with F@H? See viewtopic.php?f=51&t=9162&start=180 starting about page 13.
