I have had a lot of trouble getting credit for WU's, only on one computer, and I have many. A re-install, trying doing it when NOT VPN'ed and a re-config have not fixed it. Here is the latest WU that I didn;t get credit for :

Only one of those has been credited.

Hi Mark_F_Williams (team 198),
Your WU (P2653 R1 C199 G53) was added to the stats database on 2008-02-03 14:57:02 for 1760 points of credit.

Please preserve the complete logs for all of these if you still have them. To help in troubleshooting, please post the beginning of a log, the part which shows the client and the WU starting and then the end where the WU attempts to return to Stanford. Do this for one of the non-credited WUs.

The reason you think that you're not getting credit is that you are uploading the same WU twice.

Hi Mark_F_Williams (team 198),
Your WU (P2653 R1 C199 G53) was added to the stats database on 2008-02-03 14:57:02 for 1760 points of credit.

Perhaps you have more than one client on that computer or perhaps you cloned that computer from another computer rather than registering it as a new client or perhaps you're moving work from one computer to another.

This is the same computer, running 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I have the logs with all the completions. Where do I upload the logs ? Or insert Here ? I only have one client running. How can I re-register this client to fix the possible problem with registration ? I already re-installed, and re-ran the install.bat.

I can address this part.

I would preserve the complete logs, just in case they are needed later. For now, dangerously assuming they all have the same problem, it would be good to show us parts of a log. I would like to see the startup of the client because that gives clues about your configuration. Then it would be good to see the parts where one of those WUs starts, where it finishes and sends (or tries to send) to see if the log provides any clues as to what is going on. Just copy the parts requested for one of the WUs and paste in a message here, please.

Edit: OK, I see you have added log info to the previous post. Thank you.

I notice the first WU you show is running with standard loops, which generally means the client was restarted after experiencing some problem. The client restarts using standard loops to be safe unless you have started it using the -forceasm switch.

That WU appears to have folded correctly and been sent home without problems. I wonder, however, if it was able to meet the short deadline for the SMP WU. Do you know?

The next WU started up with optimization on, but we don't see whether it encountered issues and needed a restart.

I suggest checking those logs for time it took to complete those WUs and check the Project Summary list (link is at top on this site) to find out if you just might be missing the deadlines. If so, no credit would be awarded. Only check a couple. This is only a meek suggestion, however, because I would expect the database to have a record of a late WU returned even if no credit was awarded.

Hopefully someone else will see what I am missing.

What processor does that computer have and how much RAM, btw?

I would send you both log files if I could. Note: I am a very experienced folder, number 91 worldwide (2 teams stats combined) so I know how to do this, but my other 7 boxes are fine, this one was, but just started to go crazy lately, and I can;t figure out why. I will delte every folding anything, directores and all, de-install from scratch if I can be assured that will fix the problem. Aside from the re-boots for the re-install, this computer has been on for weeks. and F@H was not even stopped (except for the re-sonfig and re-installs). The only thing I have done is upgrade to a new motherboard 2 weeks ago, NO OS re-install, just drivers.

Edit. This is the SMP client, 5.91, all 8 boxes says the same thing about going in standard loops. I have learned to ignore that. As you can see from the logs, a 2653 unit finishes in about 18 hours on this box, and Intel C2D @ 3.2 ghz, 2 gig memory. WAY under the timeframe of 4 days to finish.

Posting here is the only option.
I only have one client running. How can I re-register this client to fix the possible problem with registration ? I already re-installed, and re-ran the install.bat.
For some reason this doesn't make sense. I can see that you have more than one client registered to a machine with UserID=7578D07130XXXXXXXX. You'll have to find them and explain it to me.

Edit: I see a new post from Bruce.

I finally see what he was talking about when he posted this:
Hi Mark_F_Williams (team 198),
Your WU (P2653 R1 C199 G53) was added to the stats database on 2008-02-03 14:57:02 for 1760 points of credit.
Hi Mark_F_Williams (team 34073),
Your WU (P2653 R1 C199 G53) was added to the stats database on 2008-02-04 02:57:22 for 0 points of credit.
I saw two reports in the database, but ignored the one for 0 points because we have seen this when somebody (Windows only) has Use IE settings configured for "yes." I missed the different team numbers and now see why he said you had two clients running on that computer.

Another question if I may ... at what point did you reinstall the client?

UserID=7578D07130XXXXXXXX.
Ahhh ! This could be the problem. I have changed teams at times, but I haven;t done anything like a complete wipeout and re-install. If I delete client, cfg, and start from scratch with WU, delete work, unitinfo, etc... will it give me a NEW config userid ? I think this (somehow) is the problem.

3 months ago, I coped the HD to another, and its still running, but its a quad with 2 WU's. To be sure this doesn;t happen again, a want a NEW userid for this box, as NOW I think I see the problem.

I deleted everything but fah.exe. Re-ran the install.bat, and reconfiged from scratch, and its the same userid. How can I make it unique ?

How do you register it as a NEW client to get a new userid ?

Maybe I got it. I wnet to the registry, found Pande group FAH, and deleted the key for userid. Then I deleted everything in the F@H directory except the exe's and dll's. Then re-ran install.bat and re-configed, and the userid changed !

Edit, I just saw your reply. I can;t re-install right now, as I can;t re-boot, but the registry key and the steps above DID give me a new userid. Thanks !!!!!!

Yes, you do probably have the same machine ID on two different computers, if that is what you did. Each computer does need a unique machine ID.

To get a different machine ID, you need to delete the PandeGroup registry key where the machine ID is stored and then reboot the computer.

HKLM > SOFTWARE > PandeGroup

Edited after Bruce pointed out you don't actually need to reinstall.

You didn't need to reinstall. The only step that mattered was deleting the registry key (Windows) or machinedependent.dat (MacOS/Linux). If there's no UserID key, the client will contact the server and install a new one. We run into this periodically when computers are Ghosted. We tell them to delete the key on the master copy before distributing it.

You'll have to deal with Microsoft about licenses.

Thanks, but after copying over, the box was upgraded to XP from 2k, new OS.
