Ryzen 5000 thermals

Post by Strongwolf »

Do Ryzen 5000 have the same issue [high temps when folding] as the AM5. I'm using an AMD provided CPU cooler. :?:

I use a Ryzen 3700 8core/16 thread with a stock cooler and was not happy with the temps when I was folding with it. I have not cpu folded with it for a while as it also has a 'hot' GPU in the system and the combination was inconvenient to run 24/7 in the location (an in use bedroom) and so didn't change it for an aftermarket one. The cooler provided was OK but if you want to run all threads suspect you may want to replace it.

Thank you for your reply. I was hoping that it could run @ 90 degrees like AM5. I'll get an 240 AIO.

Oh I'm sure it can run hot and function, just would you want it to? This will depended on what else is sharing the case, in my situation a hot CPU plus a hot GPU heated each other even more.
I know the heat still exists no matter how you dissipate it but the inside of the case was just too hot in my experience, better to cool it externally the 240 AIO seems a simple fix.

I got some .0003" copper foil, cut as large a piece as would fit and put it directly on the CPU. Used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste. This reduced my temps by 3-4 Degrees. Did something similar with my GPU with similar results.

Mine 5600x stepping 0 undervolted with '-" offset sign by 0.08175 volts, losing only ~25 MHz from stock allcore clock, but dropping 7-8 C compared to "auto" voltage without any undervolting. 3 days without any errors with core 0xA8. It crunching with simple 4 heatpipes aircooler with some Alu fins between heatpipes contact base, I suspect that 6 heatpipes coolers without any Alu fins between heatpipes could cool it better.
But 8 and more cores are different beasts, they'll need top-end aircoolers or watercooling for not losing allcore clocks.
