FAHcontrol not saving settings

Post by hrsetrdr »

I'm running f@h client & fahcontrol_7.6.21-1, OS is Ubuntu 20.04.1. I want to delete the CPU slot but when I do, the setting persists. Rebooted the system doesn't change things either. I have a screen recording that I posted to Youtube to show, as a visual is sometimes easier/more effective than lots of typed words.

Check for errors under the Log tab on the main screen. Or view the log directly, which may be located at /var/lib/fahclient/log.txt unless Ubuntu file structure is different than my Fedora system.

So I decided to take a sledgehammer to it and edit /etc/fahclient/config.xml , took out " <slot id='0' type='CPU'>" and was done with it.

I still would want to know the "why" as in WHY editinf the FAHcontrol configuration in the GUI doesn't save the changes....

Taking out the CPU slot out of config.xml may not persist through reboots. The client is designed to look around what hardware there is at startup, so the CPU slot may reappear. You can add <pause-on-start v='True'/> to the slot, so that it won't used for folding.

When editing config.xml, be sure to have fahclient stopped, otherwise it may overwrite your changes.

Thanks, the CPU slot removal survived a reboot, but if it does reappear I'll add the "<pause-on-start v='True'/>" to the config.xml .

This is true for the GPU slots, but the client doesn't recreate CPU slot.

But I know it recreates GPU slots after shutting down and reopening F@H or rebooting the computer it starts running GPUs again that I just removed. I have 2 computers to back me up on that. I think any slot in general the client goes back to default. Can't run GPU work from an APU because I thank it's too slow or 512 MB of shared memory is not's enough, and I can't change it in the BIOS, and I don't get credit for it.

This topic is about CPU slots, your observation about GPU slots is off topic. The reply by toTOW is exactly what will happen if you just remove a GPU slot, the client by default will recreate it. There are other topics that go into this and give a workaround to turn off the auto recreation of a GPU slot. That requires adding the option "gpu" set to "false" under the Expert tab of Configure.
