1660 ti finishes when the WU is around 1-2% complete.

If you think it might be a driver problem, see viewforum.php?f=79

1660 ti finishes when the WU is around 1-2% complete.

Post by ExecutableFiles »

My GTX 1660 Ti will begin a work unit and everything will be normal. It says it will take around a day as normal, then once the GPU begins folding the timer reduces to around an hour and 30 minutes depending on the workload. But after a minute or so it simply stops. I get only a couple hundred points from it when I could be getting several thousand points. I check the logs for what might be the case and this is, at least, similar to what I found happens every time the GPU begins folding:
22:36:46:WU00:FS01:0x22:Temperature control disabled. Requirements: single Nvidia GPU, tmax must be < 110 and twait >= 900
22:37:30:WU00:FS01:0x22:ERROR:exception: clWaitForEvents

22:37:30:WU00:FS01:0x22:Saving result file checkpt.crc
22:37:30:WU00:FS01:0x22:Saving result file science.log
22:37:30:WU00:FS01:0x22:Folding@home Core Shutdown: BAD_WORK_UNIT

What could be the issue here and what do I need to do to in order for my GPU to fold properly? Will provide more information if needed.

Welcome to the F@H Forum ExecutableFiles,

Generally speaking, you can occasionally get a bad WU. However, I don't know the state of this WU since you're the only donor who has returned it: https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu#proje ... 016&gen=64

We would like to see more of your log, especially the first 100 lines of the log to understand what hardware you have and how the client is configure. Guidance on how to do that is provided here: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26036

If you want to have a head-start and investigate your system, have a look here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=16526

Before this response was written, I had thought that maybe it was due to the fact that I had overclocked my GPU. I decided to tone it down a bit so that it would run at a more stable clock speed. I noticed the work unit ran for much longer than normal, but the work unit eventually failed after a bit. This is the log from that work unit.

Leave it at stock clocking. I have 7 gpus none are overcloked and run fine.

Yeah, I think what I plan to do is tone down the clock speeds and memory speeds here and there until I no longer run into issues. I already have toned down the memory clock speeds, and if the WU fails again then I will tone down the clock speeds even more

You still haven't given us the first 200 lines of your log file, But it looks like you are running Windows, which I could not tell from your first post.

Since i can't see what drivers you have, here is the latest ones from Nvidia https://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/159423

Please note that using live WUs may not be the best way to test your stability of an overclocked GPU. Reason is that for each "failed" WUs, the servers will have to assign duplicates to ensure that it is a bad WU rather than an unstable hardware. This slows down research and since there's a known shortage of GPU WUs (which is currently being worked on), may not be ideal. Also, by default, F@H tries to ensure that each WU is unique to a donor so duplication of WUs is an exception, not norm :)

My suggestion would be that you start at stock settings from Nvidia. Some factory overclocked GPUs were found to be unstable for the workload for F@H.

It seems that this might be a faulty WU but the verdict is yet to be decided: https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu#proje ... 762&gen=35

Turns out that it really was an overclocking issue. I have since brought the clock speeds down and my GPU is going through work units normally. Thanks for all of your help though.

It also turns out that when the error was detected, your client reported the error and the server reissued the WU to another Donor who successfully complete it. See https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu#proje ... 016&gen=64
