Good day everyone! I have installed FAH specifically to help with Covid-19 research. If there are no covid-19 work units, I want the client to Idle in the background, until there are covid-19 work units available.

How can I achieve this? If this is not possible I will have to uninstall the client.

I heard a new client is in beta that will have this option. How can I get this client?

Read some conflicting info on what my client-type should be set to to be able to access covid-19 work currently. Should it be "beta" or "advanced"?

You don't need to set either value - the COVID-19 work is all in standard release now. "beta" would be required for new types of projects for them to test on; "advanced" is for systems with a larger number (>10?) of CPU cores and memory.

Actually Advanced is for those projects just out of Beta. Often there are gaps in what types of systems and settings a project gets tested on while in Beta, so there is a slightly higher risk of problems with a WU.

Remove CPU?
You don't need to remove the CPU to have the GPU to run the COVID-19 virus. CPU work will NOT interfere or even slow down the GPU work. I would have my computer run any other virus on top of the GPU work and you get more results that way too. If everyone removed the CPU work then the other virus will never get folded until what 1 or more years are done running the COVID-19 gets done. Running both CPU and GPU will be better than 1.

... and many of the CPU projects being released within the past week or so are COVAID19 projects, too.

Is it a good idea to just have say 4 CPU threads then. I don't want the CPU running full throttle all the time.

Except for the heat, it should be fine at 100%, ... but you can configure the CPU slot to use any number of threads from 1 up to N = all
... but that also really depends on whether you're running both GPU projects and CPU projects. (You can choose that, too.)

Windows requires one available CPU thread per GPU.

In addition to the excellent post by X-Wing, at this point all COVID-19 WUs will be Core_22 for graphics cards, not CPUs.

After some time, they may find use for CPUs, but for now, no Core_a7 CPU WUs will be for COVID-19. You may prefer to continue to use BOINC projects on your CPU and just devote your GPU to F@H.

(Also, at this time the COVID-19 WUs are in a public beta, they are hoped to be in production by the end of the week, if all goes well)
Do you know if AMD GPUS are currently supported I was getting work units for other things before but now I can't seem to get any at all and wasn't sure if that was just a shortage or a compatibility issue

Just to note, F@H takes one core away to help have the GPU to use one of the cores. Exp: I have 12 cores and for the CPU work only uses 11 cores.
