Empty Work Server assignment

Post by PinHead »

I realize there were earlier GPU assignment issues, but this seems to be different. Maybe not!

But this is what I keep getting on a Linux box:

06:37:56:WU00:FS01:Connecting to assign-GPU.stanford.edu:80
06:37:57:WU00:FS01:News: Welcome to Folding@Home
06:37:57:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from 'assign-GPU.stanford.edu:80': Empty work server assignment
06:37:57:WU00:FS01:Connecting to assign-GPU.stanford.edu:8080
06:37:57:WU00:FS01:News: Welcome to Folding@Home
06:37:57:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from 'assign-GPU.stanford.edu:8080': Empty work server assignment
06:37:57:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Exception: Could not get an assignment

I tried shutting down the client and restarting, but I keep getting the "Empty Work Server assignment" errors.

What type of GPU do you have? Is it supported? Which drivers are installed?

Please post the first few pages of FAH's log.

I can confirm the issue on my Linux rig that is running Core 17 since last summer. It appears no 8900 available for assignment ?

It appears that on http://fah-web.stanford.edu/pybeta/serverstat.html, server 171.64.65.69 (normally work server for project 8900 according to FAHControl) is reported as down ? Is it possible to notify PG ?

There is no need to notify PG at this time. They have set the server DOWN while more core 17 work is being created. If all goes well the server should be back up later this morning. Please see the blog.

Thanks for the info P5-133XL

It looks like that is my issue. At first only the Linux box with the GTX570 was having the issue, but now my Linux box with the GTX580 is also exhibiting the issue. And I see that the server making new WU is the only server supporting Linux GPU.

So they are happily awaiting the restocking of the buffet!

That's also covered in the blog. They're upgrading the server infrastructure to provide better support as the work completed by GPUs is expected to continue to grow.
