Daughter of *hondo* needs help please

Post by Daughter of *hondo* »

Hi, I hope I'm post in the right place

I'm staying at my Dad's place while he's away on holiday, he's left me to look after his quad PC I know a little about folding, but not enough.

He's got four F@Hs folding two of which seem to have run into difficulties pretty well most of today they have been 100% but have failed to register on Fahmon they have been 100% finished but in red most of the day, while the other two have been showing what I seem to remember the normal green, not too long back they both finally turned green but I still think there is a problem, shown in red below. Oops I couldn't figure out how to make the text go red so I've hi lighted it in bold instead

Will this right itself, or do I need to do something to right it? Or should I just turn Dad's PC off and leave it until he gets back home? (5days)

BTW the other troublesome Fold seems to have the same problem.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks for reading.

Try typing the adress in a browser ( eg 128.143.48.226:8080 or 128.143.48.226:80 ). Both don't work here ( can't connect, if everything is good they will respond with 'OK' in your browser.

And you can always crosscheck that with http://fah-web.stanford.edu/serverstat.html

It's not really a problem to have work being returned abit late with the uniprocessor wu's, most have running time's of multiple days anyway.

Welcome to the forums, I hope this is of some help btw!

Good on you for 'baby sitting' this. Ive had some delays on some of those units too.
Keep up the good work and don't be afraid to ask around here. :D

Thank you all for the replies so far :)
I’m sure this is not working the way it does when I’ve seen Dad @ the PC, but I’ve never paid too much attention to understand how he gets round the problem, I guess its trying to send a finished fold but can’t, and if I key into the browser 128.143.48.226:8080/
I get The page cannot be displayed. Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer although surfing the net is no problem, I’ve tried for a while disabling the firewall, & rebooting the PC but the problem remains. Even though I know that Dad formatted the hard drive and re-installed windows, before he left I’m sure he would have been happy that folding at home would have been working ok before he went away.

What this typically means is that a server is down and you have no control over that. The client will continue periodically query the server till the server is up and can transmit the results. Meanwhile the client will continue folding as shown in the last line of the log. Don't worry, folding is running exactly the way it is supposed to here.

As p5-133l said, there is no need for concern, which is what we said as well. The problem is not on your end ( most likely ) as I can't connect to that collection server either.

Your dad will be happy don't worry it's running as said some times, perfectly fine :)

From that log file, how can you tell all four cores are actually being used? I see nothing that indicates that to me.

You can't, it's a single log file from a single uni client. From the OP it's clear she knows there are four instances, and she posted about two having problems. That indicates she knows enough, that and her own admittance of knowing some but not all about f@h.

We all appreciate your willingness to babysit for your dad. (I wish I had a daughter would do that when I'm away.)

In one of your posts, I see:
[21:35:23] Project: 6301 (Run 162, Clone 2, Gen 20)
[21:35:23]
[21:35:23] Assembly optimizations on if available.

[21:35:43] (Starting from checkpoint)
[21:35:43] Protein: p6301_sh3_with_ALA_frags
[21:35:43]
[21:35:43] Writing local files
[21:35:43] Completed 37060 out of 500000 steps (7)
[21:35:43] Extra SSE boost OK.
[21:35:44] - Couldn't send HTTP request to server
[21:35:44] + Could not connect to Work Server (results)
[21:35:44] (128.143.48.226:8080)
[21:35:44] - Error: Could not transmit unit 00 (completed August 15) to work server.
A couple of things that have been said about it could perhaps be made clearer.

First, the "Could not connect" messages which you've hilighted have been reported elsewhere and will be taken care of. There's nothing that you can do about it anyway, and in fact, it's not a serious problem since it's telling you that although the results can't be uploaded right now, they'll be kept until the problem is resolved at Stanford and will be uploaded then.

Second, the messages before that indicate that you have a new assignment and it is being processed correctly. "Completed 37060 out of 500000 steps (7)" is a good sign.

Third, after the client has been restarted, as that one has been, FahMon will show Orange rather than Green for a while. That's normal and nothing to be worried about. It's not just if you restarted a computer, though. The other log says "[20:19:42] Completed 0 out of 500000 steps (0)" which means a new WU was just downloaded, and that's also a normal situation when you'll probably see Orange when there's nothing to worry about. Red generally means there is a problem that needs attention.

Thank you all for your input, all four folding are showing communication problems now, I've tried on a number of occasions to post the four txt files between. like requested, but nope, I can't get it to work
for whatever reason the forum refuses to let me post them.
I'm afraid this is getting more trouble to me than what its worth.

Thank you again all

For the past several days, server .226 has been heavily loaded and has been switching back and forth between "Reject" and "Accepting" connections and struggling with a CPU LOAD of about 7. At about 16:00 GMT it appears that the server was taken off-line and when it came back at about 18:30, the numbers were MUCH better and it has continue to improve since then. I don't know what was done, but your uploads at about 20:00 is consistent with that.

Thanks, Pande Group, for working even on the weekend. :D 8-)

Codysluder, you were correct. It wasn't anything she could do anything about.
