Project: 3770 (Run 6121, Clone 1, Gen 1)

Post by HendricksSA »

Last night was better for project 3770. I have not been having much luck (see http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=10655)) Three of three 3770s completed successfully on one machine. One of the new WUs was Project: 3770 (Run 6121, Clone 1, Gen 1). Things didn't go well. I have several more 3770s in progress. Am I the only one having problems with this project? Is there something you experts can suggest to help me get 3770s to complete? All other projects are running fine. Here is the extract of the log.

Thank you for your reports.

There have been enough reports of problems with p3770 that I'm becoming convinced that the project is a difficult one, science-wise. In most cases, if a project has a higher than normal number of EUEs, the problematic runs/clones can be identified and removed from circulation during beta testing.

In this case, that may not have been possible. Since the reports seem to have very small GEN numbers, we seem to have a huge number of mostly untested RUNs in very short trajectories rather than a whole series of GENs within the same RUN. I've never seen a project with RUN numbers that large! Apparently you won't be getting the next GEN of a RUN that has already demonstrated its stability during beta testing.

Note that your results are receiving credit ("Going to send back what have done.") even though the credit for a WU that only takes a couple of minutes will be a small credit.

If all of my speculation is true, (and it may not be) your Mods will continue to report the bad WUs and have them taken out of circulation. Remember, FAH is true research, and sometimes a researcher learns more from what does NOT work than from the things that behave precisely as expected.

Bruce, thanks for the insight. I keep forgetting about the beta aspects and the cutting-edge science at work here because the WUs usually download, run, and report without any problems at all. My main interest is the science not the points which was my motivation for asking for help. I had not even considered that a failure can also provide valuable information. Again, thanks!
