Re: How to fold on CPU of fanless PCs and milti-core experim

While not an ITX system, my 8320e is passively cooled and running 6 cpu cores dedicated to the cpu client and 1 core dedicated to gpu (the 8th core is used for running programs and X). The CPU has a Zalman-FX70 for cooling. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61fh-FoFP7L._SY300_.jpg CPU...

Re: How much CPU to drive GPU

It's usually a bad idea to limit FAHClient and/or FAH cores to a single core/thread ... :( Works fine here plus equals slightly more points since your client is no longer battling for cpu time. The GPUs have 100% of each core dedicated only for them. GPU client doesnt use or require SMP processing ...

Haha. The same way the rest of us ended up with lots of spare cards (hoarding several GTX 970s in my cupboard). If it works and is reliable, you might need it in the future. ;)

Re: Would there be a benefit to split my cpu cores? 6core no

Depends on OS and what you are doing with it. If folding gpu on Linux, then yes, but you only need to split one core off. Use it to drive a dedicated FAHClient instance that does nothing but feed the video card. Let the system handle cpu time scheduling for any CPU instances you are running. The GPU...

Re: How much CPU to drive GPU

8 cores ideally, but you might be able to fudge with the 6 core since the AMD wont use a full core. If it was an AMD board id say an fx 8xxx, for intel an 8 core cpu of your choice, so an i7 ideally. If you are using Linux and want to maximise everything, segregate your cores. Isolate all cpu cores ...

Re: the distro doesnt matter

Easier to use the web interface for stop/start and to see what its folding (if you can be bothered). Also dependencies for that are a web browser and net connection. As for dependencies, im surprised no one has pointed out you can run ldd against the binaries to get an idea of whats missing on your ...

If you look in the Nvidia area theres usually some discussion on viable driver versions.

Re: Missing Command Line Only FAHClient link missing from si

The Alternate downloads link on the main Download page leads me to this which does have the links - https://foldingathome.org/alternative-downloads/ Many links were broken when the website was moved from its former server at Stanford to the current site. As the person who formerly maintained most o...

I just wrote a post saying to try an older version of the driver.

Glad you seem to have fixed it.

Re: The worst software I have ever seen.

After three days: - With a medium configuration, the consumption of the 7700k cpu is kept at 90% -100%, causing overheating and BlueScreenOfDead errors. - The consumption of the gtx1070 graphics card remains at 40% no matter what configuration you have. - Points are not added in days, nor is team d...

Re: 40.114.52.201 & 13.90.152.57 Killing QRB

Everything you write about the server overload is now known. The really positive cause of these problems is known. I am also patient and move on. But that's not the issue here. The point is that FAH should not reduce the points previously achieved when calculating the packets because the FAH server...

Re: Project 14349 ... AS lowers CPUs to 12

It happens from time to time. If there is only 10,000 atoms then it will probably not need a 64 core system to process it, so they will set the core count to something less thereby freeing up the 64 core system for work that needs that kind of power. But if no other workunits are available it will s...

Re: Project 14349 ... AS lowers CPUs to 12

Nothing stops you from running two fahclient instances of 12 cores.

There was mention on beta about a lot of the covid workunits being set to 12 cores max due to limited numbers of atoms.

Re: keyboard/mouse unresponse periodically

If you do process separation it lessens it considerably, but to do so is a fairly advanced process requiring you to isolate cores at boot using isolcpus and then bind specific processes (the client running the gpu) to those isolated cores. Its not perfect, but its a lot better than without. The key ...

Do you get the same problem on 7.4.4?

Not sure if this one will work on 10, but it may?
