Re: people using client-type beta
Beta team is for beta team. if you are prepared to post up failures or get no points, and have an interest in making everything better for others, then join. If not use advanced.

Re: The worst software I have ever seen.
I do know that there was a case were it was confirmed that a donor was illegally installing F@H on systems and folding. After an investigation, and confirmation of that behavior, all the points were zeroed out under that username's passkey. While not frequent, it has happened so that's why a passke...

Re: offering a Folding Server and connetivity to accept cli
When I had my 2u running I put it in the cellar. That thing was loud. I wouldnt run it in my computer room. But then the Cisco kit isnt particularly quiet either (and was also banished to the cellar).

Re: The worst software I have ever seen.
Covid is the current hyped up disease. But like all viruses, a vaccine or treatment will appear, sooner or later. Cancer, Huntingtons, Alzheimer's, HIV (and other similar diseases) are more deadly and kill more people overall than this will. The main difference is they dont do it quickly. But if no ...

Re: The worst software I have ever seen.
Isolated cores is the method. One core per fahclient. Isolated at boot using isolcpus flag, then taskset the client to an isolated core. It works well on 1 and 3 gpu systems, less so on 2 and 4 (unless headless). Basically on my FX 8 core I isolated cores 6 and 7 (isolcpus=6,7), the remaining 6 core...

Re: The worst software I have ever seen.
Its down to experimentation. For example. if you download the latest client then you get version 7.5.1. However if you download the Linux server version you get 7.4.4. So I have manually installed 7.5.1 on the Linux servers. No instruction to do this but I figured it out myself. Now I could have go...

Re: 140.163.0.0/16: blacklisting MSKCC via FW
The question is, can you send back to them without them rejecting. Mine has had no issue receiving workunits from those servers, it just wont send them back. For the sake of investigation I decided to block both servers to see what happened and straightaway the workunit uploaded and picked up new wo...

Re: 140.163.0.0/16: blacklisting MSKCC via FW
Also its Easter and im sure the people behind FAH would like to have a day of peace and quiet, to enjoy themselves away from here and spend time with their families. Given the current situation, I think they would like to enjoy time with their loved ones. Things will get back to normal after the Eas...

Re: The worst software I have ever seen.
I dont think F@H needs to solve for the former group, imo. They do if they want as many contributors as possible. And that is the root cause of all current problems. Too many people folding. This is a small project, run by a small number of people. Ideally suited to maybe 50% less folders than are ...

Re: 140.163.0.0/16: blacklisting MSKCC via FW
Its a small project run by volunteers. Quite frankly they should put out an advisory saying they dont need anymore donors at present and shutdown registrations. Even with all the extra servers being donated their are far too many people folding for this size of project. On the bright side CPU is sti...

Re: How High is the PPD of Teams
This whole uptake of donors has been very beneficial to the scientists compared to a year ago. Its not just Covid research that is getting done but also the cancer projects. All very useful for the future. Wish I could still fold at the same level i did a few years back, but electricity isnt cheap a...

280w is insane. I thought the old AMD X2 3400 was hot, but 280w is insanity level. What sort of cooling solution do you need to keep temps below 40C?

Re: Own hardware vs. cloud computing
It would be interesting to see a case study based on what could be run from a 8kw solar system as part of a household as well. If the power was generated for free and you maximised production by using low wattage cards like those mining 1060's @ 75w maybe into a low power 12-24v setup using a PicoP...
