Re: Ability to abort/cancel a workunit?

@Peter_Hucker ... If you feel that way then maybe tbh using Boinc might reduce stress levels? ... FaH software is what it is - for many it works perfectly well and allows folders to contribute effortlessly, but it does have known limitations that are being worked on ... Setup can be a challenge, var...

Re: Q9450 and RX480

Check your logs and see if you can find wus from the same project in each week then compare the time it took to fold each ... for most projects wus within the project will have similar performance (the benchmarking projects don't follow this and have wide variance).

Re: Q9450 and RX480

Tbh you really need to be looking at the projects the wus are from .. if the first week you were mainly getting were from a project the suits your kit well and the last week were mainly from a different project which less suits your then the drop you ard seeing may simply be down to variation in pro...

Re: 32 max threads on windows?

At this point I will bow out of this discussion ... I have made my point clearly ... the current fahclient/fahcontrol limitation is what limits a cpu slot under any current version of windows to a maximum 32 threads - not licensing, fahcore or project wu limitations ... this cannot be solved by buyi...

Re: 32 max threads on windows?

No I am not going to hit a limitation with os or fahcore .. the limitation is an artificial one imposed by fahclient/fahcontrol which needs fixing :) .. there is no 32thread wu limitation - current projects do not have an upper thread limit bar a few and they are limited to 8 or 4 threads or less .....

Re: 32 max threads on windows?

I have demonstrated on a current/recent project that a single 32+ slot on one of my servers rather than two slot produced both a higher total WU per day throughput and each;/every wu was completed much faster with a single rather than with two so the answer on my kit is that a single high thread cou...

Re: 32 max threads on windows?

That was the type of news release I seemed to recall that opened up the limitations that had previously existed. With FAHClient not actually doing any of the real work (FAHCore does that) it could readily manage to hand off the correct number of threads to be used by the core if only the 32 limit wa...

Re: 32 max threads on windows?

I think this is incorrect. Then we shall have to agree to differ :) ... but we may actually be agreeing more than differing to be honest - I am answering the thread question of 32 max threads on WIndows - which is a wholly FAHClient/FAHControl artefact and not a limit set by the OS or the FAHCore ....

Re: 32 max threads on windows?

Or just the ability to set the number of threads in the config and not have the client override it .. simples .. only needs that call if auto generating slot

Re: 32 max threads on windows?

The windows client simply passes the settings to the fahcore - the fact that it is 32bit shouldn't stop it passing the correct settings to the fahcore which is 64bit and readilly folds on more than 32 threads ... it is most likely a legacy coding issue

Re: 32 max threads on windows?

The only Windows solution to this, is to buy Windows Enterprise, which can handle up to 128 threads, but costs you a monthly fee (unlike most other Windows versions which only cost you the purchase price at the beginning). This is incorrect ... It is not, I repeat not a licensing issue ... it is th...

Re: 32 max threads on windows?

I have tested the fahcore_a8 and it readilly runs with 32+ cores/threads per slot, on a suitable project wu it delivered more wus per day as a single slot rather than multiple slots, and delivered each wu quicker ... the issue is not the fahcore or the windows os rather it appears a legacy issue wit...

Re: Q9450 and RX480

Your biggest performance boost will have been dropping the cpu as the increase you mention far exceeds the increased performance from win to linux so it looks like your win setup was not supporting the gpu as well as it could due to the cpu being too loaded ... it has been a well worth exercise from...

Can you post the bit from the top of the log which includes the System Info and Configuration sections.
