Re: 10127 (Run 48, Clone 1, Gen 121)

F@H WUdget is for OSX, so not relevant in this case.

The question is if there are any other apps that might have the same issue, or if it is FAHControl that is causing this somehow.

Re: How do I turn the damn thing off?

Pause on battery always defaults to true. Some power settings in 7.3.6 may pause on battery even if you de-selected it. Checkbox is in FAHControl > Configure > Advanced. If you have a popup menu in your toolbar that says "Novice", you need to change that to "Advanced" or "Ex...

Re: 10127 (Run 48, Clone 1, Gen 121)

To the best of my knowledge, the client does not clean up stale connections unless there is a heartbeat/update scheduled. The client doesn't know the connection is gone until it tries to send data on the socket and fails. If a third-party app disconnects and does not send a 'quit' command or have up...

Re: Remote Monitoring?

You only need to restart the client who's Remote Access config you're changing. I recommend using an explicit simple password, the same on all machines on the LAN. The passkey is supposed to be the default password if you don't set one, but I've never tested that. I do not recommend altering the &qu...

Re: FahCore_a4 and SMP on a Linux Box

The servers still distinguish between smp and uniprocessor.
Since you were cpu:1 when you downloaded a WU, you were probably assigned a uniprocessor one.
When it finishes, the next WU downloaded will use 2 cpus.

Re: HFM.NET - Monitoring Application for Folding@Home v6/v7

Slot types smp and uniprocessor have been combined into slot type cpu.
HFM will need to be updated.

Re: Main Website Homepage Needs Updating

I would not say the OSX release is any more beta than for the other platforms.
That's why 7.2.9 was moved to the home page.
V7 is pretty much the only choice now if you have a Core 2 Duo or better and OSX 10.6 or later.
Last I heard, OSX Intel v6 clients were not getting any work.

Re: wu 7504 outdated core

You MUST also upgrade to version 7.2.9 to not have this happen again. Upgrade before adding/removing slots.

FahToggle

Simple OS X app which sends unpause when launched and pause when quitting to local client. It can also be added to your System Preferences > Accounts > you > Login Items, preferably with Hide selected. Uses expect scripts by k1wi. http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=23153 64-bit app Fah...

You could also add a uniproccessor slot and disable or delete the smp slot after using Finish.

Re: Poll: Stand-alone client for your OS? Yes/no/unsure

If the tarball has binaries with the execute bit deliberately unset, then they would not be double clickable. Direct download of a binary file also usually results in no execute bit. Distributing the client and wrapper non-executable sounds like a good idea. Edit: Finder/Launch Services will try to ...

Re: Poll: Stand-alone client for your OS? Yes/no/unsure

You can double click launch anything with an execute bit on osx. If its a shell script or command line tool, it gets run from a Terminal window. The full path to the exe is used, and the cwd is set to the user home. You can also launch things with special extensions, like ".command",

Re: Poll: Stand-alone client for your OS? Yes/no/unsure

If it's on a separate download page, that would be fine.
I just don't want to see it casually downloaded by mistake.
As has happened in the past.

Re: Poll: Stand-alone client for your OS? Yes/no/unsure

We know from experience that some people will download the console client and simply double click the exe. Universal defaults are not required, as the client knows what platform it's running on and can choose an appropriate default. I think something other than the current working directory would be...

Re: Poll: Stand-alone client for your OS? Yes/no/unsure

If stand alone client means no installer, just FAHClient, FAHCoreWrapper, and some doc files, I suppose so. But I would put these on a separate download page, without friendly terms like "no-nonsense", and with a warning making it clear that you must use the command line to use them. The c...
