Re: Bigadv points change

Stanford has dangled the carrot several times over the years to get folks to upgrade hardware for more points but this is the final straw for me. Its been fun at times, aggravating, and expensive. Oh well time to move on life's to short for this crap, I hope the work I done helps someone somewhere ...

Re: I'm neeeeew so some advice would be nice

If you will be running the SMP-client then consider getting a passkey. After 10 completed smp work units you will get bonus points for every WU you complete (these bonusses are higher the sooner you return the WU).

Re: Projects 10012-10085 -> accelerate F@H 100 times?

The test is real. Don't know the results yet. 100x the speed with with the same accuracy would be great. 100x the speed with 2x less accuracy might be okay. 100x the speed with 10x less accuracy might not be accpetable. Have to wait and see. No need to devote (waste?) more systems without knowing t...

Projects 10012-10085 -> accelerate F@H 100 times?

I've recently read the project description for projects 10012-10085, and I was shocked by what I read, especially this part: This project is a test of a novel means to significantly accelearate Folding@home Molecular Dynamics calculations by 100x without any additional increase in hardware WOW! How ...

Re: About the papers currently in peer review

I have a question as well: is the amount of papers you guys are writing rising? And how is the importance (if you understand what I mean?) of these new papers?

By importance I mean, are the discoveries in new papers bigger and more important than those of the last few years?

Re: What made you join the cause?

I agree that it's not doing the same as F@H, I never said that. The only thing I said is that for people who are folding mainly to cure cancer, their are other projects out there which at this moment are putting more research towards cancer, even though it's doing completely different things (both h...

Re: What made you join the cause?

I heard about F@H when the PS3 client was announced. I installed the PC client but my computer was way too slow at the time and my dad didn't like it so I removed it, and also forgot all about it. About october or november last year I started running the PS3 client and really got into folding, I als...

Re: News, 2010 August 30, Two New Key Results!

So I've done some research and it appears these paper were already put online on june 15 and july 2 of this year, on other websites. I also made a topic about it a months ago (see topic in this forum: will this discovery affect F@H?) How come it takes longer for the papers to appear obn the F@H webs...

True, but unless I'm mistaken, these are some newly discovered proteins!

Researchers Claim Breakthrough In Diagnosing Alzheimer's

August 10, 2010 By RFE/RL Alzheimer's is an incurable deterioration of the brain, ending in dementia and death. It affects tens of millions of people around the world, and despite decades of research, there is not even a way to diagnose it properly. Until now, that is. A team led by Geert de Meyer ...

Vijay is acknowledged in the actual paper, which I just see he's linked above.
True. It would be nice to see Folding@Home mentioned in the article, it could always bring in new folders.

Re: Will this discovery affect F@H?

Very interesting! But if F@H has played a very important role in this, why hasn't it been mentioned in the article?

Will this discovery affect F@H?

Scientists Post Lower Speed Limit For Cell-Signaling Protein Assembly The apparently random self-assembly of molecular threads into the proteins that make the body work is far less frantic than previously thought, Michigan State University scientists say. That discovery could be a key to help unlock...

The NALP1 protein has been associated with certain autoimmune diseases. It might also have something to do with MS. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18946481 Variants in the gene encoding NACHT leucine-rich-repeat protein 1 (NALP1), an important molecule in innate immunity, have recently been show...
