Re: FAH Client: No available GPU's??

Is "gpu-beta" set to true. In the FAH expert options?

It is possible that there's an error in GPUs.txt, in which case we need the hex codes for your card to check: How to get them: viewtopic.php?f=83&t=26208#p262894

Re: CPU slot only using E-cores on i7-12700

There are some people aiming for PPD per watt, who claim that folding on the E-cores is very efficient - of course in that case they are running only one thread per E-core. It would be nice if the client would be aware of E- and P-cores, and choosing the most efficient configuration based on the fol...

Re: 511.23 a bad driver?

There are several Covid-19 Omicron projects running right now, which might skew the PPD higher than usual, so don't be surprised if average PPD goes slightly down when there are no active Moonshot or Covid-19 Omicron projects.

Unless you get both broadband and phone access from the same provider, that suggests that the problem is either at WUStL or in your computer. Unless the server operator can match your logs to the server logs, it'll be hard to find the cause.

Re: Upload failures to mostly *.wustl.edu endpoints

First, can you try connecting to those servers on port 80 and 8080 with a regular web browser? Can you try to tether the computer in question to mobile internet or use VPN temporarily to see if the stuck WUs upload? Alternatively try to use a HTTP proxy? If you can visit them with a browser, but FAH...

Re: project 18415 not given enough days

Are you folding on a discrete GPU at the same time? Depending on the thermal solution, a notebook PC might be better off folding only on the GPU, or with fewer CPU threads (as suggested above) than on all available threads.

Re: Project download issues

Some anti-virus products and deep packet inspection firewalls, on your computer or your ISP, may trigger this problem. FAH uses port 80 and 8080 so in theory it should work if you can visit the work server with your web browser, but in practice some security products from time to time block the FAH ...

Re: How to set maximum CPU utilisation %

I know that some power supply circuits start making an audible whine if power draw is very low. In the case I discovered it wasn't capacitors in the CPU voltage regulators, but the 5V voltage supply circuits (used by e.g. USB power).

New cards come out all the time, so the only thing I know about which cards are compatible is: 64 bit floating point math unit and support for OpenCL 1.2 If a compatible card isn't listed in GPUs.txt yet, it can be requested to be added to the list here: viewforum.php?f=83 The TechPowerup GPU databa...

Re: How to set maximum CPU utilisation %

So your problem here is that you want some minimum CPU utilisation, but your CPU also boosts too high even on a single core when you load it with a FAH job. There is a little documented F@H setting called "cpu-usage" that you can set in the "Extra slot options" for the CPU slot. ...

Re: 511.23 a bad driver?

The only way to be sure would be to run a few frame with 496 on a WU, compute the average time per frame, then update to 511, run a few frames on the same WU, compute the average time per frame, and compare the two average values. Important to ignore the PPD when doing this, since the timeout and Q...

Re: Any progress in opening the source?

I have been led to believe that server-side validation would be enough to avoid cheating (deliberately trying to pass off bad data as good), but maybe the closed blob is there to avoid DDoS'ing?

Re: Any progress in opening the source?

The project agrees that security through obscurity isn't sustainable. The work to open-source the client got sidetracked when Covid-19 happened and the single salaried developer had to be prioritized to keeping the work servers running. There are now two salaried developers on the project, but I don...

Re: Where is the heat?

Most likely this is due to advances in process node technology (the same transistors can be made more densely on the silicon, with less power dissipation) and architecture improvements (the same calculations can be done in a more efficient manner by using less transistor state changes to do the same...
