Re: GeForce GTX 680 stuck on Ready

Yes, Bob, you'll have to dual boot into Linux or Windows to GPU fold on a Mac. Thread on it here: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=29808

Awaiting logs for taittaja, I don't think that is a MacOS client.

Re: RDP - Windows 10 FAH Client Crash/Freeze/Stops Running

Yes, I'll probably use VNC over an SSH tunnel. I think some who think Remote Desktop work fine have misunderstood what's happening here. If I disconnect the RDP connection then all applications including web browser, office, and FAHClient will keep running, and CPU folding continues, but when the GP...

Re: Failed to get assignment from '65.254.110.245

The summary for no GPU folding on MacOS is that there used to be a long-standing bug in the MacOS OpenCL implementation, which made it pointless to make folding cores for it. That bug has now been fixed in later versions of MacOS, but Apple is phasing out OpenCL support and is going all in on their ...

RDT - Logging out of Remote Desktop blocks GPU startup

This might be a known issue, but I wasn't aware of it before. It seems that if you use Remote Desktop, you must stay logged in to it when a work unit starts on the GPU. Otherwise the GPU core will hang around waiting for a login. If I log into the Windows 10 Pro machine with Microsoft's Remote Deskt...

Re: GPU [Not Folding - Mint 20.04 LTS]

That FAHClient.service file is a service start-up file which supersedes the regular init.d file. You can make that file with for example sudo pico /etc/systemd/system/FAHClient.service paste the code, and then press Ctrl-o Enter Ctrl-x Make sure there are no line feeds in this one, it is one long li...

Re: Failed to get assignment from '65.254.110.245

But my two Ryzen 3950X's are too valuable to be sitting idle for 10 to 60 minutes each time I request work. One thing you can do on your end is to add the "next-unit-percentage" slot option to them, and set the value to something like 90 or 95 instead of the default 99%. That way they wil...

Re: GPU [Not Folding - Mint 20.04 LTS]

Since you're running Linux Mint, it can be enough to install those proprietary drivers with Linux Mint's own driver install tool. You might already have them on your system. First try this: Install some OpenCL development files from ocl-icd-opencl-dev, either using synaptic or sudo apt install ocl-i...

No, they don't help either of the issues that's been covered in this thread. This is about AMD's drivers and its OpenCL support.

Re: About 2 x GPUs and heat problems

Depending on fan speeds, you might have close to a balanced air flow or perhaps even negative pressure. Is the power supply fan taking air from the case or from the outside? Could you try making the rear fan or both the rear and the back top fan into intakes and leaving the radiator fan as an exhaus...

Re: About 2 x GPUs and heat problems

Electricity here in Norway is actually at negative retail prices right now, but utility fees and environmental taxes brings electricity cost up to slightly above 0 per kWh. Thus it's actually more cost effective to fold in the summer than the winter here, since my house is heated with a heat pump. A...

Re: Unbuntu 18.04 and AMD driver -- need help

The HD 7700 series cards are based on the GCN 1st generation Verde chips. OpenCL support for those was dropped by AMD for Linux several years ago, you would have to load older versions of the drivers and may be capped at Ubuntu 16.04 or earlier. Yes, I looked closer at the AMD Linux driver release ...

Re: Unbuntu 18.04 and AMD driver -- need help

I had both a HD 7770 and an RX 580 in a Windows 10 PC, where they both were folding and producing valid results, but it seems that the 7770 was bottlenecking the RX 580; at least anecdotally the total PPD on the Windows PC seems higher without the 7770 than with it. Perhaps due to thermals, PCIe or ...

Re: Unbuntu 18.04 and AMD driver -- need help

Maybe these GPUs which don't have any working drivers should be blacklisted by the client or the server so they don't cause churning of work units. Will the client/slot eventually give up or get banned by the assignment servers when it has a 100% bad work unit rate?

Re: Unbuntu 18.04 and AMD driver -- need help

I can report that a Radeon HD 7700 series (VERDE) card won't work on Ubuntu. Even when the permissions issue is taken care of, so FAHClient finds the card as a unit in OpenCL, all work units fail. This is with both the prorietary AMD driver (20.20-1098277, 19.20-812932), and the open ROCM and MESA v...
