Re: AWS EC2 - backup checkpoints directory
One person who folds on cloud similar to this reports that turning off automatic GPU detection, by setting "gpu" to "false" in the config helps. So the opposite of what I suggested at first.

Re: AWS EC2 - backup checkpoints directory
The PCI ID of the GPU likely changes between instances, so you should perhaps over-write the config.xml file with a fresh one that re-discovers the GPU and adds it as a slot with the correct OpenCL IDs, provided that this happens before WU is dumped. If doing it that way dumps the WU, you might have...

Re: Helpful to adjust core/memory clock and power limits?
If you want to run a system outside, it sounds like you either need to run them fully passive, or to put some very good filters on them, or run them in their own little micro-climate that has a heat exchanger to the outside. I've heard of some people doing that by having big radiators (possibly repu...

Re: AWS EC2 - backup checkpoints directory
Are you backing up the /var/lib/fahclient/cores directory and /var/lib/fahclient/GPUs.txt too?

Re: Suggestion to ease server scaling issues
This thread is about work servers - the machines which you download and upload work units from. Are you asking about cloud folding on Amazon EC2?

Re: FAH Client: No available GPU's??
Unless the GPUs.txt change was made in error, it was correctly detected as a card which shouldn't fold. I suggest you delete your GPUs.txt file and have the client re-download it. "Hacking" the GPUs.txt file yourself isn't allowed - that is left to the developers to mess with.

Re: F@H client disobeying my research choices?
I quit folding when it gave me cancer and alzheimer's units Please, no - due to the "relay race" nature of folding, doing that slows down the science computing and causes unnecessary delays and wasted energy. If you want to exclusively contribute to Covid-19 research, consider the World C...

Re: Upload failures to mostly *.wustl.edu endpoints
I wonder if you have the same ISP? Can you share your IP numbers with the server operators without posting them publicly, so that they can check the logs?

Re: Repeatedly no response from WU-Server
There have been reports from some users who can't upload to those servers, but the servers work well for most other people. I wonder if we need to start finding out which ISPs the affected users are from or if there's some common denominator in the software running on the machine.

Edit: The number of simultaenous connections to the web server has been reduced, to help those who actually do connect complete the download.

Re: core22-0.0.20 download fails repeatedly
Download is now finally starting for me at about 160 KB/s, so it'll be downloaded in about 15 minutes - hopefully.

Confirmed, happens for me too, except it doesn't find even 1% - it just fails immediately. Is the server overloaded?

Re: Q9450 and RX480
You should aim for high stability and PPD. In other words, the main goal is to not crash the WU, return it within timeout, and third get the highest PPD you can get on your gear. Folding@Home rewards quick returns of work units because it works like a relay race: The work servers are waiting for you...

We can treat it like Field Day in amateur radio: It's technically not a contest, but an emergency preparedness exercise and recruitment event, but everyone still wants to win the highest number of points for bragging rights.

Oh, so Xe used to be enabled, but it's disabled due to instability?
