Re: No CUDA or OpenCL Support Detected for GPU

The system needs ocl-icd-opencl-dev installed for OpenCL support.

See viewtopic.php?t=36824

Not sure why it doesn't find CUDA. On Fedora Linux, it's part of xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-cuda-libs that's installed by RPM Fusion.

Re: PPD differences in x8 vs x16 4.0 lanes on RTX4070 and higher?

One of my RTX 4070 Ti cards was in an HP Z440 for a while, which is PCIe Gen 3.0 x16 (equivalent to Gen 4.0 x8 15.754 GB/s), with no noticeable reduction in performance compared to Gen 4.0 x16. All the times I've checked PCIe Bandwidth Utilization in the NVIDIA Settings app, it's using a single digi...

Re: how to stop search ignoring terms? Looking for a topic

Any words being ignored by the site search here may be limitations of the database (likely MySQL or MaraiaDB) default stopwords list on the full-text index of the table that stores the content. There is this very old thread found by using a site:foldingforum.org filter to limit Google search to this...

Re: What is the best Nvidia video card to get to fold the fastest?

The 4070 looks like a bit of a dud with the 7-8M PPD showing on the LAR Systems database, but with the GPU typically costing $550-600+. My 4060 Ti routinely shows 6-7.5M PPD estimates, shows 6M avg on LAR and was on sale recently for under $350 but still isn't bad at $400. Now there are rumors of ne...

Re: Stop after current WU completes?

There is a pause-on-start option that can be added and set to true on the Expert tab of FAHControl. This will make all slots have Paused status when the client starts up.

Re: Stuck on E-cores for CPU workload on 12th gen Core i7, W11 22H2

I'd like to bump this thread. I have a i9-14900kf, which is 16 E threads, and 16 performance threads. My advanced priority setting is set to higher. No matter what, even if I tell it to use 32 threads; it will only use 16 threads of efficiency cores and not touch the performance cores. I have used ...

Re: clGetPlatformIDs() returned -1001

This particular WU appears to have been counted. But it was returned 1.5 days later than the researcher wanted. It's possible that the system did regenerate the WU to be reassigned to another client, but it wasn't sent out before you returned it. There could be a process that removes reassigned WUs ...

The last WU run by user tripplehelix shown on https://apps.foldingathome.org/cpu is Project:12435 (Run 7, Clone 151, Gen 56) https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu?p=12435&r=7&c=151&g=56 It was finished in 4.496 days, which is well past the the 3-day timeout of project 12435 on https://apps.f...

Re: What is the best Nvidia video card to get to fold the fastest?

EVGA Precision X1 is one alternative to Afterburner. It should work with any brand of NVIDIA GPUs, but not sure if it works on the RTX 4000 models since they discontinued their GPU product line. The NVIDIA Settings app that is installed with the GPU drivers will allow underclocking if the Coolbits f...

Process Lasso could be used to force the FahCore_22 (or _23) process to use only e-cores on Intel CPUs. One CPU thread is needed to feed each GPU and it doesn't need the speed of p-cores.

Re: What is the best Nvidia video card to get to fold the fastest?

Should have also noted that the 4060 Ti isn't a great gaming GPU with just 8GB of VRAM and limited memory bus. But I got one for $350 on sale and it has impressive folding performance. Also, the 4080 and 4070 Ti are supposedly being discontinued and new 4070 Super, 4070 Super Ti (seriously stupid na...

Re: What is the best Nvidia video card to get to fold the fastest?

An RTX 4090 will do the most points, but will also cost $2,000 or more, not including a big power supply, draw hundreds of watts and produce a lot of heat and maybe fan noise. My experience is with the RTX 4070 Ti and 4060 Ti. The 4070 Ti shows estimates of 9-17M PPD and draws 180-240W, depending on...

Re: clGetPlatformIDs() returned -1001

I don't understand why this keeps coming up? This is a project I've enjoyed being a part of for many years, something is better than nothing. Something could be worse than nothing in some situations. If a researcher is waiting for results to come back before a new set of WUs can be generated and se...

Some others who were folding on Pi 4 said it was too slow to finish work units before the timeout.

Re: FahCore 23 broken on Fedora 39

The same Core a8 and 23 files should be downloaded regardless of the FAHClient version. Maybe the command line passed to the core could be slightly different in newer clients, but probably not. You could try going into the BIOS and underclocking the CPU or memory slightly. Sometimes when hardware ag...
