Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.

Linux gives higher ppd. I can't comment on how or why (I assume they use the same code) but guess it's because Windows has a lot of processes working in the background. So just hearsay. I'm not a fan of Windows, but this isn't convincing. I don't care about reasons in this case, but I do care about...

Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.

The operating system has very little influence on hardcore number-crunching tasks such as FAH. Don't expect more than perhaps a few percent from a better SMP scheduler, but probably not really. Scheduling is a computer science problem that has effectively been solved to death and back, and everythi...

Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.

I have a copy, and hope to set up a an 8 core Bulldozer based PC with an older GPU within the next week. If everything works as expected, I'll let you know if it works how good it is (I'll set up W10 first, so I can compare output of similar projects between the two) Looking forward to your finding...

Re: 2 easy question

Set the option "pause on start" in the advanced slot options for the gpu slot. viewtopic.php?f=61&t=26036 section 5 explains how. Best to finish the current work unit and have it paused first, if possible.

Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.

Since it seems to be very easy to install Windows 11 after all, has anyone tried it yet? Does F@h work in W11? I have a copy, and hope to set up a an 8 core Bulldozer based PC with an older GPU within the next week. If everything works as expected, I'll let you know if it works and how good it is (...

Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.

Reviews I have seen are of a buggy, incomplete leaked version. This is MS. Given their prior history, buggy and incomplete could mean it will be released in a few months when their marketing dept. determines it is time. LOL, given their past record, it's probably going to be best to skip 11 and wai...

Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.

How soon is "soon" though. Reviews I have seen are of a buggy, incomplete leaked version. I don't expect it for well over a year, if there are no beta reviews yet.

Re: Project 18202 - all wu fail to upload

My error was that the wu appeared not to be uploading. I should have posted sooner - I started checking after the affected wu finished, and found they were registering, I just wasn't getting an acknowledgement from the server. Once I was able to confirm that results had actually uploaded, I deleted ...

Re: Project 18202 - all wu fail to upload

I don't have a phone I can get online with. I also have no problem with any other projects or sites, so if my ISP is at fault, it is just the one domain that is affected.

Re: Chip shortage will affect PCs, and GPUs

I've not seen an RTX 3000 series card for sale new from a UK retailer at all (OK, I don't check every day). Only cards I have seen are on eBay, probably burned out from crypto, and often at least double the RRP. Even the new cards on ebay I'm skeptical about, if the big retailers can only get enough...

Re: Project 18202 - all wu fail to upload

Some eventually upload, but even then the points don't register straight away. Some appear to expire. None upload straight away when completed. Sometimes one or two wu upload after a reboot.

I use ZoneAlarm, so no Kasperski or BitDefender.

Re: Project 18202 - all wu fail to upload

I thought this would be fixed by now. wu from this project are still not uploading for the first couple of dozen or more attempts, with many expiring. At 8 hours work and 200K points, not to mention the lost science, I feel like I am giving the power company money for wasted work.
