Re: Folding@Home makes Steam take ages to launch
If your Steam games run fine once you get the client loaded and you can take the performance hit on the games and/or the folding, I'd suggest just pause folding before you load the client. This should allow it to load at regular speed and then you can start folding again after the Steam client is lo...

Re: Switch preference to Parkinsons for highest PPD
Some are claiming that HIP will give a huge boost to AMD for folding and certain other things. Of course it's always soon.... when soon is nobody knows. :?: TBH I didn't even look at any AMD stuff when GPU prices dropped a little last year and I grabbed one. The lack of driver updates and support al...

Re: missing points from all projects 19600 since yesterday
Hopefully they got them all, but HFM would tell you for sure. Either way, your long term contributions are appreciated. That's a lot of years of folding, and hardly worth tossing away even if some points didn't credit. Though I didn't fold long term, I did a little when the project was in it's infan...

Re: Suggest a Graphics Card for Linux that folds, is silent and cheap :)
Jives11, The MB manual for that lists a very small list of supported GPU's. Though this might not be exact, I was looking to see what version the X4 PCI-E slot was. IF you find that it can be supported, I'd agree with Joe that it's not worth buying anything too old, even if it is somewhat performanc...

Re: missing points from all projects 19600 since yesterday
It was just a suggestion, I don't have your exacts. Do you use HFM to monitor your work units? I do and took a quick look, all of my project 19600s that were missing showed up.

Re: missing points from all projects 19600 since yesterday
TheWolf, What about the huge spike at 12 PM? That is when my points for 19600 hit, and your number of work units and points rewarded spiked considerably. Keep in mind that though 19600 for most is a very high PPD project, it's also very short and thus the number of awarded points is small. On my sys...

Re: HFM.NET - Monitoring Application for Folding@Home v7
That's what happens when you guys with power gear leave F@H running for too long without a restart. You end up exceeding files sizes and such! Glad you got it sorted out, and I guess it's easier to do than it seems, whatever the cause. Yesterday I decided to finish a work unit to do a syst...

Good eye Mattifolder!
I had a couple as well, starting on the 11th. All prior to that seem to have been credited.

Re: Best bang for the buck build?
In some cases, especially with AMD cards, the older CPUs really can't handle undervolting or lowering the GPU without causing a whole load of issues. On top of lower PPD, the GPU have to be kept at a higher power limit to prevent crashing. I had a lot of bad work units when I started folding again ...

Re: Folding priority on multi use machines?
I did a bit more digging today, and might still try changing priority to see if it helps. On a few of the newer projects, the system is taking a hit of almost 30% at times, way more than the older stuff. But with some looking, it does seem to be only a few projects that are doing it, so not much of ...

Re: Best bang for the buck build?
Interesting testing on your rigs @Pyrocyborg. Though the differences aren't huge, it does show that CPU impacts GPU more than some claim. It might be interesting to test other factors and figure out what really drives those differences... is it clocks alone, clocks and cores, ability to boost? (Not ...

Re: No bonus
In short, either you have failed to finish a lot of work units, or they have dumped due to failure. If you don't use HFM or check your logs, you could potentially have a lot of errors you have never known about. Depending on how long you folded on your older gear, it's possible that they happened ju...

Re: Folding priority on multi use machines?
Your wife is worth more than Folding. Let her have the priority. I'm not going to let anything get laggy for her, though she might not even notice if I changed things. I know when I put the GPU in the system she didn't even notice that it was quicker as compared to the APU in the machine. Since she...

Folding priority on multi use machines?
Just question for those that use their folding machines for other regular tasks. I'm seeing a trend lately that either the newer projects or possibly a change in Win 10 update settings allows for folding to be slowed down greater if running in the background. Our system probably gets used at least 4...
