Re: Linux (Ubuntu/HiveOS) low PPD - 3080

The mix of projects can quickly skew the numbers, especially with GPUs with a lot of shader cores. If you check on the LAR site, you can look at PPD per project, and then scroll down to your GPU. That will give you the numbers for that specific project vs all around averages.

Re: First Job, complete time way off

There is no standard for PCI slot colors, so you might want to take a look at the specs for the motherboard. And for folding, overclocking your memory will generally slow throughput. Many users find faster returns by actually underclocking memory. I also have a 1660 Super, and it returns better PPD ...

Re: First Job, complete time way off

Hard to say if that CPU will be making deadlines with the core counts changed, but the only way to know for sure is to try. As for your GPU, while it seems to be folding, it's not folding very quickly for what it is. Do you have it on a slow PCI slot by any chance? While I suspect it will still meet...

Re: 206.223.170.146:8080 is really slow

Thanks all for the reports! I just took a peek at the server and am not seeing anything strange happening on our end. I issued a restart to the server with the hopes that resolves things and will keep an eye on this thread over the next few days. Thanks for taking a look at it. I only had the one i...

Re: Smaller Tasks for 750ti

I used the method of preferences as suggested above, and at times it helped quite a lot. In my case I had onboard graphics that were slower than a 750ti and at that time the species designation was such that sometimes I couldn't meet the expiration on certain projects. Using the preferences to find ...

Re: Brief Overview Of F@h Beta Team Membership

Thanks for the update Muziqaz, but if you could some further clarity would be appreciated. Is this to say anyone wishing to help with beta testing should simply add the flag and report any issues in the beta forum? I was under the impression that previous policy was to apply, and it was desired that...

Re: 206.223.170.146:8080 is really slow

I just had an issue with this same server earlier today. It downloaded 0.28% of a new work unit then nothing for hours. There was no error in the log until I shut down the client in attempt to get things going again. Restarting the client wouldn't get it to budge, and the client would hang on the lo...

Re: Role Of Beta Testers

A true Beta Tester actually tries to break the software, use it in many scenarios, system configurations, and tries all combinations of settings, switches, clients, etc. I think I've figured this, it relates to the testing of the cores alone, not the work units. It just doesn't say this explicitly....

Re: Start folding.

You can get to Advanced Control though Start Menu>Folding@Home>FAH Control As for CPU resources they should be roughly in line with how many threads you have folding compared to total threads available. That is if you don't have any GPU folding going on, or other background work that requires CPU. I...

Re: Resurrecting Dormant Team Site

If you haven't tried already, it might be worth registering on the LTT site and just putting out some feelers. There is a chance he is active there, or someone has a way to contact him. They have a folding related forum, so it might work.

Re: Start folding.

I always just used the Advanced Control for folding. The web version is hit and miss sometimes and rock solid at others. As for resources, I don't think folding is all that bad considering what it's doing. If you are running both folding and BOINC at the same time it's probably less efficient for bo...

Re: 18601 multiple bad work units

I noticed the early failure as well, seems strange that it fails before it begins normal functions. For me, I noticed with the bad units, and still with the good ones, that the delay time during the core start/upload, platform identification seems on the slower side as compared to most work units. E...

Re: Resurrecting Dormant Team Site

It might be worth stating the team name and the founders username. There are a few forums where a decent amount of longer term and/or contributing folders might post, and you may get lucky and find one with a contact. It's a long shot, but maybe worth a try. And really, if you want to create a websi...

Re: Only getting bad work units.

Being you are getting the same error, I suspect it's a Windows related issue, possibly triggered by updates since you last folded.

ERROR:Win32: 0xc0000005: Exception access violation

A quick search shows multiple possible causes for such an error code.

Re: 18601 multiple bad work units

18601 still causes me problems every so often. I'm going to limit based on GPU Temp I think and see if I can get it to work more reliably.
