Re: GPU WU shortage? 18.188.125.154?

Thank you Joe_H! It looks like the issue is resolved: all GPUs are now folding.

GPU WU shortage? 18.188.125.154?

Since at least 24 hours, I haven't had all GPUs active simultaneously. At least one, and up to three (total 8) don't get jobs for hours. It goes like this: 12:58:17:WU01:FS02:Connecting to assign1.foldingathome.org:80 12:58:18:WARNING:WU01:FS02:Failed to get assignment from 'assign1.foldingathome.or...

Re: AVX512 faster than the very best GPUs?

F@H uses a great deal of single precision floating point math (FP32) and a bit of double precision (FP64). AVX256 can do 8 FP32 operations at once per thread, or 4 FP64 operations. (AVX2 allows us a Multiplication and an Addition at the same time on the same inputs, so if that is the math you need,...

AVX512 faster than the very best GPUs?

It looks like some new algorithm running on AVX512 can speed up certain AI tasks to the point of leaving in the dust even a V100. Would this be useful for FAH? https://www.tomshardware.com/news/cpu-v ... imizations https://techxplore.com/news/2021-04-ric ... odity.html https://www.marktechpost.com/2...

Re: Promotional Materials for F@H

Thank you for the feedback! I'm not associated in any way with that offering or with FAH (apart from folding on my system), though, I just found that page online. I think it should be addressed to Anton Thynell, who is chairman of the Communication Advisory Board and Head of Communication for FAH: h...

Re: Χ99 EVGA FTW-K-i7 5960X 8cores

If the whole thing still is functioning properly I see no reason why not. This CPU can handle 40 PCIe lanes. You should use a set of four sticks of RAM to use its capabilities (Quad channel DDR4).
For 5 GPUs, you are going to need some really powerful PSU, though, and it will be hard to cool.

Re: Permission to re-use the "Even while you sleep" video

I would also recommend to choose a more easy-to-use domain for this kind of first contact. I propose fah.world I took the liberty to buy it for a year (it was a promotional action, a few euros). If FAH is interested, they can of course use or get it for free (access to my panel/DNS Zone or regular t...

+1
But you should adapt the last slide, that is still sending people to a dead page (folding.stanford.edu)

Re: Wu 17721 on Radeon 6900XT (WTH???)

Nope, never seen this before. Maybe the researcher is doing some experiment with that project, and thus making especially good use of CUDA. I remember having seen a few "unicorn" WUs with it on my system. It is listed as unspecified but belongs to a Cancer series managed by Dr. Matthew Cha...

Re: Wu 17721 on Radeon 6900XT (WTH???)

Well, there is a HUGE difference indeed between the 6900XT and eg the 3080 for that project:
6900XT avr. PPD 1,563,523
3080 avr. PPD 6,011,894

Well, this forum is dedicated to the users' support. It is not supposed to be a communication channel. Then, the communication coming from the Consortium, on the website, is either very specialized (biochemistry) or very broad (how it works in a general way, or some general thoughts about what is ha...

Re: How to Control CPU Core Usage on Linux?

You should be able to configure the config.xml file, and you don't need a password, but then you have to specify it in some way. And from the kit with a complete installation, that is, with FAHControl, you can easily edit the remote kits. For example, for my system (all win10), in a remote FAH insta...

Re: Thoughts on optimizing the assignment process

I have some faith that FAH is worth the energy expenditure. But it's a constant worry that we're all trying to cure diseases to protect a species that is in desperate need of some kind of population constraint. Not really, the curve is clearly flattening: https://population.un.org/wpp/Graphs/Pr ......
