Re: Large wu 16410 vs Core2Duo Laptop - Abort??

Shouldn't be space on this one. I formatted and new installed Mint 19.3 just to run this. I'll set it to finish and when it's done with the current wu I'll run some disk checks. Because this one was put together out of leftovers, it's only got 1g of ram. I know FAH isn't ram hungry, but is there a l...

Re: Folding with elderly Core2duo

OK, thanks for that. After running for a while, the eta exceeded the maximum allowed, so I just paused it and uninstalled it. IntelAtom N455, at least on this crappy little netbook, will try to work, but is definitely not suitable for purpose.

Re: Folding with elderly Core2duo

Intel Atom update. It appears to have dumped the first wu it was working on very slowly, and despite being set to finish in the web control, gone on to start a new wu. Looking at the log file for the failed wu, there were a number of entries of "work unit stalled" then it working again, be...

Re: Large wu 16410 vs Core2Duo Laptop - Abort??

Got just above 80% complete, then I noticed that the status had gone to updating. Came back live after a bit, worked for another hour or so then the status went to updating again. When it came back up this time, it was no longer doing 16410, but had started a fresh wu. I tried to look at the log, bu...

Re: It's getting better now, isn't it?

The workserver 128.252.203.9 is momentarily down: https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats Is it the one concerned? Not if I'm reading the logs right. 13:42:19:WU01:FS00:Final credit estimate, 1149.00 points 13:42:19:WU01:FS00:Cleaning up 13:45:29:WU00:FS00:Connecting to 65.254.110.245:8080 13:45...

Re: It's getting better now, isn't it?

One of mine is getting "empty workserver assignment" instead of the usual idle log message?

Re: Folding with elderly Core2duo

Answered my own question. My IntelAtom N455 appears to be a single core 2 thread, but will run FAH. Currently running 13860,but as it's a 282 point wu with an estimated work time of 1.74 days I've set it to finish, and I'll uninstall. Too slow even for me. Suspect it's only using 1 thread, but can't ...

Re: Large wu 16410 vs Core2Duo Laptop - Abort??

Just while I think of it, if the laptop was to die while running, can I switch the hdd to another (Linux Mint so that works fine and I have 1 identical unit running which could be used once it's wu is complete) and complete the wu that way?

Re: Large wu 16410 vs Core2Duo Laptop - Abort??

Again, thanks for the advice. Currently done 19% at about 11 hrs and saying 2.11 days to complete. Was saying 5.9 days limit last night, but I'd rather not open the browser on the 1Gb ram on that machine to recheck. Can you check the limit from FAHControl? I'd have thought 4 thread min for this type...

Re: 13827 bad work unit

The CPU definitely died soon after. It was one which had never been able to run at full clock speed without regular thermal shutdowns. It had never been a problem (approx 2 yrs intermittent use as a spare/loan laptop) at 1.6GHz and that's where I was running it. After it shutdown yesterday, it would...

Re: Large wu 16410 vs Core2Duo Laptop - Abort??

OK, thanks for that.I wasn't sure whether there was a way to abort that would allow immediate reallocation. I'll happily let it grind away at the job. Stabilised estimated PPD is nearly twice what I usually get on that machine, which also suggests to me that it's a pretty high priority project. Esti...

Large wu 16410 vs Core2Duo Laptop - Abort??

One of my old core2duo laptops has just been given a 16410 wu. It must be pretty big as its base points are 4476, and my estimated time to complete is 2.5 days. The description calls it a high priority. While I'm comfortable that my machine can get through it, and the allowed time is nearly 6 days, ...

Re: 13827 bad work unit

No, it didn't upload, but the cpu on the machine I was running died about an hour into the next wu,after I'd posted this. Fair chance it was my end.
