Re: Running the Linux version of FAH in Windows?

The reason that current FahCores produce higher PPD in Linux is because there's less overhead in Linux (this may or may not change in the next version of FahCore). From my understanding, the implementation of WSL 2.0 uses a lightweight virtual machine via sub-features of Hyper-V. Thus, the question...

Re: The worst software I have ever seen.

I would say as a first step for making it more user friendly, remove the passkey requirement for bonuses, that just confuses so many newcomers looking from the number of posts with missing passkeys. The passkey separates those who can read from those who can't... Really, the information i...

Re: The worst software I have ever seen.

If someone cares about points, i don't know what to say, but people do... If you wanted to make FAH more popular - give people free PC games, for each x points, people like getting things for free. And so many gamers would join and share that with their friends, or advertise that on stream. Or give...

Maybe someone with access to historical stats can create a graph to show the progress?

Re: Security question

If an official website gets compromised, so does the PGP signature. Windows and Mac won't install unsigned software, but it's not unheard of signing keys being stolen. But that does add an extra step for attackers. Supply chain attacks are getting more common. Security is about minimizing risks aft...

Is that just a difference of points assignment, or genuinely the science stuff is done slower on Core_21?

Re: The worst software I have ever seen.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I'm happy to see the interest in CV-19 but also miffed that it wasn't there for Cancer or Alzheimer's. When (hopefully) a vaccine is found for CV-19 will all these new folders and the new hardware melt away? I expect so. But will this current situation of failed up...

Re: Security question

If people choose to download Windows from somewhere other than Microsoft they would be foolish. Same here. It's not for FAH to fix people who choose to do stupid things. We have seen instances where official websites of some software were compromised and the installers were replaced with malicious ...

Re: cpu vs gpu jobs preference

It depends on your specific laptop, of course. I suggest you run a few WUs CPU-only, and then run a few WUs GPU-only, then compare the PPD for both. As Joe_H mentioned above do make sure to complete all pending WUs when you switch slots. I would even say there's a chance that CPU+GPU would not make ...

Do I need to fill in my complete address information there? I don't live in the US so it shouldn't be relevant, right?

Re: Security question

The software has two IP Addresses for Assignment Servers hard coded into it, so it would be very hard for a man in the middle attack to succeed. The assignment servers give the client a work server, also via a hard coded IP Address. So your software cannot easily be deflected to talk to a fake Fold...

Re: Feature Request: Pause at next checkpoint

I think we have to be honest to the folding community. Saying that a Core 2 Duo does great help is a lie. Maybe a few hundred-thousand would be. But then other factors like power consumption etc have to be considered as well. That is for the scientists to decide, if a machine returns a WU before th...

Re: The worst software I have ever seen.

Difference between the versions isnt massively relevant to Linux Users. I use 7.4.4 and have done since it came out. I launch and run it from a custom method that everyone says is wrong, but it works well for me and gives me slightly better PPD than using the accepted method. i keep to myself for t...

The question is, can you send back to them without them rejecting. Mine has had no issue receiving workunits from those servers, it just wont send them back. As of today yes they are accepting finished units, with collection server 52.224.109.74. For the sake of investigation I decided to block bot...
