Re: Do Laptops Get Too Hot?
If you have a chance to purchase a higher wattage power adapter I'd do it. I was folding on a low end Dell for awhile. The power supply could not keep up with the fans and 100% cpu without the battery starting to run down. Every week or so I'd have to shut down folding for a few hours to get the bat...

Re: Slowdown issues with VMware Player 3?
I've used Player 3 and VM Workstation 6 and 7 and see no noticable difference in performance. All of my clients are notfreds, but doubt that makes any difference. I've also run with MPICH_NO_LOCAL = 1 both on and off and see considerable difference in 2-core performance. Could 7im's mouse problem ha...

Re: Updated notfreds Virtual Appliance
I set up the new notfreds on one of my dual core machines. I don't see any difference in performance or any other way. I haven't tried it on a quad yet but suspect I'll see the same result. Does any one know what kernel 2.6.30.1 should buy us folders? Anyone tried VMware 7 or Player 3 yet? I've been...

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
so I'd say you're doing quite well. Considering when we started it was running under 500PPD, I'm thrilled to be getting 1800PPD! Oh, does it matter what priority is set to if there is only one client running? Right now it is at low. Thanks to both of you for all your help! I really appreciate it gu...

Re: 171.64.65.56 not responding
You wouldn't happen to have their number would you? Please contact the system operators of the Web site (e.g. your ISP) to determine why the service is down. They will be in a much better position to help you than we are for this type of error.

Re: 171.64.65.56 not responding
I guess I wasn't clear in the previous post.
This server seems to be down although server status would indicate otherwise.
It won't send or receive any workunits. I currently have 2 smp clients waiting for work with several more nearing completion.

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
I really hope this is a typo. :P It is a 2.53 MHz cpu 1800 isn't too bad. My 2.0GHz does about 800 PPD in Windows SMP (can't do VM). Running VMs on my desktops gives my about 125% the output of just the Windows SMP, so I'd say you're doing quite well. Yeah,, you're probably right. My T9300 gets rig...
