Re: Trouble getting CPU work the last few days

I just returned from a five-day trip, and found that I had run out of CPU work twenty minutes earlier. I think that is a sign that Prof. Voelz and his students should take a break.

Re: more .... bad work units

While you are at it, check the memory also. Memtest is often used, though I have seldom had it find the real problem. If you use four sticks of memory, pull out two and use only slots 2 and 4.

Re: A possible new COVID-19 treatment

If you want to work against COVID-19 using a GPU but under BOINC, World Community Grid now offers such tasks. I do both, but I always reserve my fastest cards (GTX 1070, RTX 2060, etc.) for Folding, due to the increased value of the extra speed. This is reflected in the quick return bonus, but it i...

Re: Ice Storm

Whatever the old "normal" was, there will always be a new normal. I think that in the U.S., the middle part (the Great Plains, which includes parts of Texas) will see the most obvious effects first in terms of temperature and precipitation. But studies indicate that the Atlantic meridional...

Re: Ice Storm

Do you think the ice storm may be effecting some servers due to possible electric outages? I had a brief hit here in northern Mississippi but other than that electric has stayed up, but possibly worse in other parts of the U.S. If you are referring to the Temple servers, I am 50 miles north of them...

How Scientists Shot Down Cancer's 'Death Star'

After 40 years of effort, researchers have finally succeeded in switching off one of the most common cancer-causing genetic mutations in the human body. The finding promises to improve treatment for thousands of patients with lung and colorectal cancer, and may point the way to a new generation of ...

Re: Are we doing any of this...?

It is just-in-time protein delivery. If Dr. David Baker says it is important, then it is important.
But I would think that Folding could contribute to this work as much any project could.

Re: Article on Exploring the Broader Physics of Viruses

Yes, very interesting. Surely Folding can make some sort of contribution to controlling the functions of these various proteins. It seems to be right up their alley.
