Re: Vega 7 (Ryzen Cezanne 5600G) when you get a chance

Yeah it's pretty good. Pulling over 100K ppd. The description, yes that's what I'm talking about. It needs to be differentiated from the other Vega-based iGPUs. Seems to fall between a GT 1030 (80k PPD overclocked) and a GTX 1050 (130k PPD stock). The 1030 uses 25-30W max, the 1050 uses about 75W. ...

Re: Pentium Gold G5400 for 2 RTX GPU's?

No you won't. I've successfully ran RTX GPUs for years on the exact same CPU. The boost speed of 3,7Ghz is sufficient to run up to two RTX 3060Tis (provided your motherboard can split the PCIE lanes to x8, and if you run Linux, it could push three GPUs. A PCIE x4 slot can really only push a 2060 or ...

Re: Does extra cache of 5800X3D benefit folding or not?

The x3D has a 200Mhz lower boost speed than the 5800. It's also overpriced (sold at 2xMSRP). You're better off either a higher core count processor lie the 5900x, which goes much closer to MSRP. Now now. 5800x3d is not selling at 2x MSRP. I see exactly same price as an MSRP in UK. They are sold out...

Re: The battle for more computer power will never cease!

F@H does not currently use AVX-512; there are 3 reasons: Fourth reason - during initial testing of the first CPU folding core to support AVX there was little improvement in processing speed over AVX-256. It would have required creation and maintenance of an additional variant of the folding core fo...

Re: Help building out a folding machine (motherboard specifically)

An RTX GPU needs a PCIE 3.0 x8 slot under Windows, and an X4 slot under Linux. A top of the line GPU (RTX 3090, and 3080Ti) will need an X8 slot under Linux, and X16 slot under Windows. The bottleneck is probably around an X10-X12 slot speed, which such a slot doesn't exist. An X1 slot even slows do...

Re: Help building out a folding machine (motherboard specifically)

I personally use PCIE risers. Small x16 (POWERED) risers are usually the best for this purpose. The powered part helps with voltage stability, and the risers themselves allow for GPUs to be mounted apart from one another. Preferably you will want to suspend the GPUs in the air, allowing them to run ...

Re: PCIE4 @ x8 mode for 2nd GPU?

The biggest issue you may have is the thermal impact ... with two gpus in case the chances are the air flow will be impacted ... one or both gpus may potentially have thermal issues - either running hot or even getting to the point of thermally throttling. Good airflow case with lots of fans and re...

Re: Maybe the deadlines of WUs on RPI are too short

I guess a RPI 3 cannot reach the RPI 4 performance just by overlocking. Actually my RPI 3 is always running at 1350 MHz. (I slightly overclocked it from 1200 MHZ.) The cortex A72 on RPI 4 makes a big performance difference from cortex A53 on RPI 3. I found some benchmark on the internet saying RPI ...

Re: PCIE4 @ x8 mode for 2nd GPU?

I'm looking to double up my FAH GPUs, 2 in one rig. My X79 board has: 3 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (PCIE1 @ x16 mode; PCIE3 @ x16 mode; PCIE4 @ x8 mode). Will the PCIE4 @ x8 mode affect PPD for the GPU installed there? It will. However, very minor. Most GPUs will see a degradation at PCIE 3.0 x4, ...

Re: Help building out a folding machine (motherboard specifically)

My experience with PCs, is that Intel is more capable of running long and intense computations, without crashing. Like, I still own 40 Atomic Pi units, where about 1 to 3 units per month end up in a crash, or cease working. I also have 4 AMD systems, containing of 3900x and 3950x CPUs, and they fail...

Re: Maybe the deadlines of WUs on RPI are too short

There is a way you can overclock the RPi3B, by a few hundreds of Mhz, making it about as fast as a 4B. But it might not be very optimal. I guess a RPI 3 cannot reach the RPI 4 performance just by overlocking. Actually my RPI 3 is always running at 1350 MHz. (I slightly overclocked it from 1200 MHZ....

@MeeLee By your own admission your systems are outside and they're unstable. Push overclocking all you want but stop quoting me. 1- Me having my units outside, has nothing to do with the topic at hand Besides, I currently run only 1 system like this, and it's been inside, online for months, without...

Re: How legit is uptodown folding@home? [Not legit]

Would be interesting to see if slower CPUs would work, so long they had more cores? ARM is still in it's infancy. And Risc V is right behind it. By themselves the CPUs aren't really that noteworthy, but once you start having more than 4 cores, they're actually pretty efficient. Probably up to about ...
