The only time I tried to install the drivers from the Nvidia download file I wound up having to reinstall Linux. I'll never do it again as the ppa install works great and I've done it many times with no problem.

That's what I said. Apparently his network adapter is going to sleep if it works fine while he's logged in but not when he isn't.

My rigs are on Linux so I can't say from my own experience but I've seen several times here that there is a problem with the default theme in windows. If you are using that you might try changing it.

I don't know if your gpu is nvidia but if it is, this is how I install the drivers and it always works. The only time I tried a manual install from a file it broke Linux. If you were running on windows I'd suggest going into the device manager and in your network adapters,properties,power management and uncheck the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. I should probably just stay out of it since I'm not an expert like the mods are, but I googled your GPU and found it's circa 2010 so my guess is that it's just so old that there aren't any compatible work units available. I hope I'm wrong though.
