Re: Team concept
Someone who has been around longer might know the original idea behind the teams, I'm not really well informed on it. But it's a way to form groups of folders for various reasons. To show support, compete, maybe a family or company, etc and show how many people are involved in that particular group ...

Re: Brief Overview Of F@h Beta Team Membership
Thanks toTOW.
As for Bruce, I hope he is well. The last time I had checked it had been a long time since he had logged in.

Re: Team concept
As far as I know you can't move points. The points that contribute to a team stay with that team. They are still credited to the overall score of any particular user name, so your points will still show totals, but also show points contributed to each team.

Re: Brief Overview Of F@h Beta Team Membership
I'd like to officially "apply" to become part of the beta team. Gear in profile, Windows user, on a machine that has run 24/7 or close to it for the last 3 1/2 years folding as well as our other computer tasks. I completely understand there is no real benefit in points, benefits, etc, etc....

Re: Point inflation - Longevity Credit
I think just thinking about the points representing “how much farther science was furthered” versus “how much was donated” is best and easiest. Either way we look at it, over time the inflation takes place. Though I agree that "how much farther the science was furthered" is valid, I think...

Re: Fast GPU, not enough CPU power to keep up?
With a GPU folding does not have any control other than working or not. If your system has an Nvidia GPU you can simply install MSI Afterburner or several other types of software that control power limits. Often you can get a much greater deal of efficiency by reducing the max power to the GPU, but ...

Re: Point inflation - Longevity Credit
Though it's actually more tech advancement, the idea is kind of good. When I look at the EOC stats and see people still plugging along with older gear but massive WU counts and/or reasonably high points, it makes me reflect on how much money some might have spent to get to that point on the older an...

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
I'd hate to see that power bill vs points comparision! Yikes! But your example makes my point. All those different cooling solutions end up at about the same temp, maybe slightly different clock speeds means some of them cool a little bit better, but not much. But there are probably a lot of cases w...

Re: folding starts fast, then slows down after a minute
Some of the new gear is too efficiency oriented, and it makes folding a bit more complex to set up. But glad you are figuring it out, there is nothing like thinking you are losing available performance.

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
People fall for all kinds of flashy stuff that serves no purpose. There is probably a lot of stuff computer related that falls into that category. Does that heat sink actually help cooling or not? Short of testing, most of us will never know, but it LOOKS like it might help cooling, so people buy it.

Re: folding starts fast, then slows down after a minute
Many systems won't stay at boost clocks long, and F@H is a unique use and demanding on CPU. Many systems will throttle to prevent damage, in some cases partly due to things like fan settings, in some cases it's something you can't avoid. It is a longer and harder load as compared to a lot of other n...

Re: folding starts fast, then slows down after a minute
Your answers might lie in the software suggested above. You could also use Windows Task Manager Performance tab to see if the loads are changing in any significant way during that time period in question. With the change being that quick, it could be that Windows is still loading various background ...

Re: Donor Statistics
I'm not sure if F@H has ever done a survey on users, but years back there was a paper on the statistics of the types of people that fold. I think part of the problem would be if people have quit folding (regardless of the reason) then they might not see or respond to a survey on why they quit. But t...

Re: client offline time or calculation time window ?
Timeouts very by project, and is the preferred completion time window. . https://apps.foldingathome.org/psummary Minimal time folding meeting those time out deadlines might be difficult. This depends on the hardware you have to use and how fast it is, along with what species it falls into and the si...
