Is there any setting below the one you chose? Low means the client will always demand some of the core. Idle will only take cycles no other program wants. Not quite, although it's not exactly the same in Windows as in Linux. Both will demand all of the resources that are not used by somebody else. ...

* The best way is to pair the cores that share the same cache together. Peace My test-bed isn't a Core2Quad, it's a dual-Xeon @3.0MHz. The two chips are physically separate, and hyperthreaded so it acts sort of like a Core2Quad although it's MUCH slower. A pair of virtual CPUs share a single chip a...

IMHO, I prefer the current way by WU since it's easier to spot the troublesome workunit in the forum listing than dig thru a project thread for the specific WU. It's also easier to spot some other things if all the WUs from a single project are in the same thread. Both methods have some advantages ...

I use the task manager in Windows Vista to assign affinities. My CPU is a QX6800 So, I manually assign 2 cores each to each one of my 2 instances of VMPlayer. Is this a good way of doing this, will it improve my machine's progress? Or, based on my setup, is there a better way to improve performance...

At our office, the computers are on day and night but they do nothing at night (such a waste when they could be folding!) If they were folding at full CPU utilization they would consume slightly more power (and generate more heat) than they do when they're idle, but even with the nicest IRS auditor ...

[PS apologies for the thread hijack] That's easy to fix -- split it into two threads. Computer time doesn't cost anything except for the electricity the computer uses. The tax man sees the costs of hardware in one budget item (depreciation), the cost of software in another item, the labor costs (co...

Re: Project: 2652 (Run 0, Clone 236, Gen 23) dodgy ?
Hi folks can some one check if anyone else has completed this wu or not Project: 2652 (Run 0, Clone 236, Gen 23) It has been returned by many people but none have received the full credit of 1148 so it's likely still being redistributed. Spike09 is not on the list. What happened after the end of th...

(7im: I appreciate the fact that you didn't choose that image for your avatar.) On the folding-community.org forum, we had a avatar limitations of 80x80 pixels and 6K of data. On this forum, we're not enforcing those limitations, but in the interest of those with modems, please keep them to a reason...

There are a couple of answers, but to get any kind of accurate designation, the Pande Group will need to answer you. Based on the time the project has been running, I'd guess that we've processed several hundred thousand WUs for project 2653. If they take an average of, say 1 or 2 days, that could e...

Re: so is two instances of the single cpu code better
7up1n3; so is two instances of the single core code running in a dual core cpu better than running the smp code in a dual core cpu? i'm running the smp in my AMD oced 4800+, seems to run well, but, the chatter back and forth here leads me to believe I should reconsider. advice please. The SMP Beta ...
