Re: Shorter units

I just bought an i7-13700k processor - latest you can get. The last project to download was going to take 12 hours, with a 2 day deadline. I only want this PC on 2-3 hours a day, so it's pointless my trying to contribute. Giving up on FAH unfortunately. Let me download projects that will take 2/3/4...

Re: folding-as-a-service

What kind of results does it produce? Like points per dollar/euro?

Re: RTX 4090 is getting 26M PPD

My 4090 only gets about 9-18M PPD. Will there be more WUs later that actually make this GPU worth the money? At this point, those of us who buy equipment to support the project as our hobby might just as well go for a 4080. Which OS are you running? I noticed over on the lar systems page there's a ...

Re: Driver 332.21 WHQL

I tried the 332.21 driver as well, no change. I tested all four driver versions in FAHBench, here's the results: Explicit SP 314.22: 35.4306 ns/day 327.23: 34.8926 ns/day 331.82: 15.5557 ns/day 332.21: 15.6549 ns/day Implicit SP: 314.22: 137.861 ns/day 327.23: 139.067 ns/day 331.82: 144.298 ns/day ...

Re: Folding on Android

Those peak performance numbers for phones/tablets are not sustainable either. It's been well documented that pretty much all mobile platforms are only able to run at full speed for anywhere from a couple seconds to a couple minutes before they must thermally throttle, if even by a little bit. Furthe...

Re: Only get Base Credit

All great information, thank you! I am what you could call an opportunistic folder. I have been trying to make use of my local utility's cheaper rates for nights & weekends and as a result this usually means I let it do folding when I'm not around to check in on it. It also means that I may have...

Re: Only get Base Credit

Hmm. So for the GPU slot (I got rid of my CPU slot) I have an additional config of "client-type" with a value of "advanced". I just deleted and recreated that option in the client software. Did I just get unlucky by being assigned core_15 instead of core_17 work before?

Re: Only get Base Credit

OK it just gets stranger and stranger. I'm looking in C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient\logs and I see data in the log file from about two weeks ago, but the last two log files (the two WUs that I believe did not get bonus credit) are effectively blank. If I go back even further, this is t...

Re: Only get Base Credit

Does the "10 bonus-qualified work units" thing only apply on a rolling basis? I have been using FAH with a passkey off and on over the past few years since they first introduced the passkey system and I noticed both of the last two WUs I submitted did not receive a bonus. I'm not aware of ...

Re: FAHBench (OpenMM 5.1)

ASUS GTX 760 2GB (GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5) stock settings: 1006 mhz (versus stock 980mhz), 6000mhz VRAM In FAHBench it boosts to 1175mhz. Completed a live WU without error yesterday although the car squeals, like every single GPU I've tested with FAH in the last 4 years or so. Anandtech shows the Explicit...

Re: 256 core server courtesy of IBM

You could go for the older istanbuls and do each server for $10000 and get the same PPD :?: :!: I can't believe that the older CPUs, running at the same speed, would run as fast as the new ones -- ie. get same PPD. :!: Well you could run the old 6-core units in an 8-way configuration, for a total o...

Re: 256 core server courtesy of IBM

Unless I'm terribly mis-understanding the Supermicro pricing, you can build a 4-way 48-core Magny-cours box for maybe $15,000 and run linux on it, do maybe 180,000 ppd in a nice little 1 or 2U rackmount system. These IBM megaservers tend to be up in the half to full million dollar range. At that cos...

Best free anti-virus software compatible with FAH? [any]

OK, so I've used AVG free edition for a while on this PC without troubles until the last week or so. Even with my FAH directories in the exception list, it still keeps running away with the avgnsx.exe process taking up a ton of CPU resources and blocking FAH from being able to upload work after it's...

Re: Cannot connect to server

I've had many periods of being unable to get work with -advmethods (A3 cores) lately too. Like 2 to 4 hours each of the last 3 days spent just waiting for work. I think it's normal, they're wrapping up some projects and about to roll out new ones, I believe.
