Re: Can all projects run on GPU?

Ok, I'll take that to mean it's useful to you to run my CPUs aswell, to do the small protein projects. Not that I have such a thing yet, but I can foresee it (yes I asked this before but never got a definitive answer). I currently have a fast CPU and a slow GPU, and the CPU only just feeds it fast e...

Project 12103 taking too long

I have received a project 12103 WU on two AMD R9 280X cards and an AMD RX560. All three will not meet the timeout. These cards easily make the timeout for everything else. I think this project needs to go to faster cards.

Can all projects run on GPU?

This has probably been asked before, but ducking (the official replacement for googling) for it didn't produce any results. Can all projects run on GPU and you're handing the tasks out to whatever's available? Or can some work only use CPUs? I ask because I'm trying to decide if it's worth running m...

Re: Fast GPU, not enough CPU power to keep up?

Multi lane risers are very hard to come by / very expensive. The ribbon ones are of course 16 lanes, but they don't reach so far. I use 1 metre long USB ones. One of my machines has 6 GPUs, it's got 12 PCI-E sockets, so I can have 12 cards without sharing a socket, or infinite cards if I do (you can...

Re: Fast GPU, not enough CPU power to keep up?

Everything other than Folding seems to use mostly VRAM and hardly any system RAM. I don't know if it's the program or a big data set in VRAM. I assume the data, as the CPU is doing the processing and making calls to the GPU. Presumably Folding needs to have the CPU accessing the data too. I guess if...

Re: Fast GPU, not enough CPU power to keep up?

I was not aware GPU RAM had errors. Do you have a link to this information? I suppose it's possible, since all you'd get in a game is a miscoloured pixel, but I would have thought if the RAM was hot enough to produce errors, it would be getting really stressed and soon fail. They ought to design the...

Re: Bigger tasks?

I see, so what you're saying is the tasks you do in under 1 hour, they don't need back in under 1 hour, so they give you the same 1 day deadline, to allow for people turning their computer off or playing games. On that note, isn't the "fold only when computer is not in use" option screwing...

Re: Bigger tasks?

Odd, they've been pretty much 7 hours on all my cards for months. The odd double length one had a correspondingly longer deadline. But this lot don't. I guess someone submitted a lot of jobs with the wrong time guess.

Bigger tasks?

I've suddenly noticed (in about the last week), half the tasks are taking twice as long to run (even though my GPUs seem to be just as heavily utilised), yet the timeout is the same. My poor old GPUs are only just meeting the first deadline. Is this a shift to wanting people with faster GPUs?

Re: Trouble getting workunits

Thanks, I like that page, very useful.

It seems the servers my computer was asked to go to were low on work, one only shows 2 tasks available (I'm assuming that's what the public jobs column means).

Is it me having old cards causing there to be a small choice of things to do?

Re: Trouble getting workunits

Still getting problems. Are you short of work on some servers? I'm not sure how the system works, does a central server tell my computer to go ask server x for work, by which time server x has run out? Or is server x overloaded? The below log is weird. Firstly it seems to be told to contact temple.e...

Yes, you now have six clients contributing: https://stats.foldingathome.org/donor/name/PeterHucker_GRC_53ed9d9b7d568cb7eb1ccc25a7dc4492 https://apps.foldingathome.org/cpu?q=PeterHucker_GRC_53ed9d9b7d568cb7eb1ccc25a7dc4492 One of those has 6 GPUs (all on a single 2.6kW PSU!), one has 3, the others h...

I need precisely the same username for my gridcoins, aswell as the stats. It seems getting another passkey with the wrong username then using it with my real username worked. If you type PeterHucker_GRC_53ed9d9b7d568cb7eb1ccc25a7dc4492 into the user field of https://apps.foldingathome.org/bonus you'...

Re: Trouble getting workunits

Tried with v7 and it downloaded immediately without problems.
Reinstalled v8 and it also didn't have problems.
Typical, things never go wrong when you test them, although I was sure I got the error every single time and several attempts were needed.

Re: Stats server down

I needed to clean my history because a GPU failed and broke 34 WUs in a row. According to someone over on Github, it should have stopped after 10, but it didn't. Luckily I saw it doing it or it might have gone on forever. At https://apps.foldingathome.org/bonus it's not showing my new one yet, even ...
