Re: Resizable BAR

Hi all, I think there was some misunderstanding on my previous post. The average VRAM (or FB Memory) usage (first line) was 548 MB (min 525, max 566) during my 30 minutes monitoring of a WU from project 17340, which is rather consistent with what I've seen on other projects. It may be more or less, ...

Re: Resizable BAR

A small follow-up on this subject, now that Nvidia has released a firmware update tool for their Founders Edition cards. I've upgraded the BIOS of the motherboard (MSI MEG X570 Unify) to beta version 7C35vA91 (AGESA 1.2.0.1) with support for resizable BAR, and activated resizable BAR support in the ...

Re: Resizable BAR

If I got it well, resizable BAR allows the CPU to access the whole graphics memory instead of small "chunks" at a time, which should speed up the big transfers of data into the graphics memory. Textures loading during gaming is a good example. As for F@H, it has never been a graphics memor...

Re: Any news?

One thing to realize here is that this effort is led by Biochemists. Their Public Relations skills are not in demand in Biochemistry. When they have news a Biochemist would be interested in, it is there. News for folders, not so much. News for the public, not at all. Again, just my opinion. Nothing...

Re: FAH@docker and FAHControl

I don't know for the container you mentioned, but this one has been working great for a year or so here, with timely and regular updates for the application and base OS, if it can help : https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/foldingathome. And the installation instructions are up to date on https://g...

Re: Guide for installing FAH v7.6.21 on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

This guide is a great initiative as Linux has significantly better folding performance than Windows, but installation is less straightforward for beginners. Just a small add-on, when it comes to restart the FAH client, it's not that complicated, and from my personal experience the commands under Ubu...

Re: Cannot install from unsigned repo

As for FAHControl, the current version requires python2/Gtk2, which are deprecated and no longer present in the ubuntu repos since 19.04. There are ways to force thier installation, but not reallu recommended... There are unofficial versions of FAHControl which have been updated for pyhton3 /Gtk3. T...

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

Difficult to help you on why GPU tasks don't start when FAHClient runs as daemon, you should post your logs. The command to run FAHClient as a daemon is '/etc/init.d/FAHClient start' and '/etc/init.d/FAHClient stop' to stop it. The current log is '/var/lib/fahclient/log.txt', the previous ones are l...

Re: WS 140.163.4.200 No Upload possible

Same here, so it's probably a general issue.
In fact, this server (140.163.4.200) is the collection server linked with the work server 18.188.125.154, which is also unaccessible. I currently have 3 WUs stuck on upload, all on project 13444.

Issues uploading WUs to 128.174.73.74

Hi, I've noticed I have an issue uploading to the 128.174.73.74 server on a few machines. The sequence is always the same: - Uploading message - Connection to the server - Nothing happens for a long time (between 15 and 20 min) - "Transfer failed" message - Immediate upload, successful wit...

Re: Heads up (New Linux Driver Version)

Just to let everybody know, I've updated two days ago the Nvidia drivers to these 460.32.03 from 455.45.01 under Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS on my main folding rig (RTX 3060 Ti and GTX 1660 Super GPU, X570 MB, Ryzen 5 3600).
I haven't met any issue so far, and performance is unchanged.

Re: Isn't it time to tune down on COVID-19 projects?

The main issue with Covid right now, is mass production of the vaccine. World-wide, that's a true statement. In the USA that's not true yet. We're failing to inject people as fast as the vaccine is being supplied. (Hopefully, that'll be remedied soon.) Only the politicians are suggesting that we've...

Tesla V100 classification

I'm currently folding thanks to Knish great guide on a temporary (free credit) Azure VM instance with a Tesla V100 GPU PCIe 16GB. This GPU works great and went as high as 6.5 mio PPD on projects like 13434, 13437, 13438, 17316, with an average PPD above 5mio. Despite, it has just folded a few WUs fr...

Re: repeated INTERRUPTED after 100%- 17322 (0, 993,21)

I've started a GCP instance two days ago, following the guide by Knish, and it works great. But I also got two failed units on project 17322, exactly the same symptoms as described by Knish, despite I created the instance with 2GB RAM. I've just edited the instance to 3GB RAM and will check next tim...
