v8.3.4 - Not Folding (Solved)

I had v8.1.18 running previously on Ubuntu 22.04.3, with 2x RTX 3070s, and have just put v8.3.4 on ... When it starts, no Folding initiates. In the Folding settings page, it detects 8 CPUs, but doesn't do anything with them, and the GPU entries are empty. The Log below seems to suggest it can see th...

Re: no user with the searched username

I have just seen the same issue for my username on the 'stats.foldingathome.org/donor' page - something has gone awry with the official stats.

Re: v8.1.18 - frequent re-installs required (Ubuntu 22.04)

You might be having a race condition, where the client starts before another service is ready. Maybe try Restart system Verify GPU is disabled Run shell commands sudo systemctl stop fah-client sudo systemctl start fah-client See if GPU works now I did a general software update today. After, on open...

Re: v8.1.18 - frequent re-installs required (Ubuntu 22.04)

GPU drivers (and CUDA/OpenCL) are installed - no issues with those. The problem is the v8 client not detecting them following a machine restart. If I re-install the v8 client on re-starting the machine (without adding info or changing any Folding settings), it Folds just fine on the GPU. Note: v7 ha...

calxalot wrote: Tue Jul 11, 2023 8:53 pm How do you manually start it?
What user does it run as?
I start Firefox, enter the url for the webclient (app.foldingathome.org) and when it comes up, I hit Start Folding.
There is only one account/user of the machine, and that's me.

Re: v8.1.18 - frequent re-installs required (Ubuntu 22.04)

@toTOW - I start it manually when I turn the machine, and use a Firefox browser (as v8 is a webclient). Unfortunately, I can't 'roll back' as the the last few Ubuntu releases don't support Python 2.7 (and it is a real faff to get v7 working), hence using v8, which seems fine when its running. @ calx...

Re: v8.1.18 - frequent re-installs required (Ubuntu 22.04)

@toTOW - thanks for the info. I've added 'video' and 'render' as groups, but (following a restart) it has not overcome this issue.

Re: v8.1.18 - frequent re-installs required (Ubuntu 22.04)

Is there any error message in the log about writing to client.db ? So, following a general software update, I ran the webclient directly - this is the result (see below) - it doesn't detect the GPU and reverts to a single CPU operation. Fix - stop the client, re-install it, and it picks up Folding ...

Re: v8.1.18 - frequent re-installs required (Ubuntu 22.04)

@calxalot - I tried your approach, but when it came to 'cp config.xml config-orig.xml', although the file is listed in the directory, it says it doesn't exist - so I'm assuming that's the symlink (as its only 25 bytes)? I couldn't find a way to delete that. I can check the log next time, but I don't...

v8.1.18 - frequent re-installs required (Ubuntu 22.04)

I have been running the beta on Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS, via Firefox, for some time now. Currently using the beta v8.1.18. What I find is that, if I restart the PC for any reason (I had some electric works done recently that cut all power), or I do a general software update, or I refresh 'Snap' (as Ubunt...
