Re: CPU affinity and pinning threads

I would check the WU's. My understanding of the FahCore_22 process (for nVidia GPUs) is that it is polling. Hence, a single core is pegged, bouncing between cores. If you reduce the CPU power/frequency, it doesn't really affect the PPD.

Re: New Hardware and OS Drops PPD Dramatically

off topic, but I am pretty pissed at MS on Win 11, and will probably back step most of my systems to Win 10. I have C# app that prints one form in landscape, It worked correctly in XP, Win 7 and 10, but Win 11 does not respect the landscape setting. But I also not really happy with Win 10 as well. S...

Re: CPU process for GPU folding

awesome on Project Lasso. On my Raptor Lake system, I moved FahCore_22 from the P to E core with no apparent change, GPU is RTX 3060. When I get a 4070 Ti for my Alder Lake system, I will compare P and E cores as well

Re: CPU process for GPU folding

for some reason, I had thought EditBin would let use set process affinity but apparently it does not.
too bad we can't modify the FahCore_xx to start as:
start /affinity x FahCore_22.exe
allowing for different values in case of multiple cards

CPU process for GPU folding

apologies that my observations are based on 7.6.21, but... What is exactly is the nature of the FahCore_22.exe process? My observations on 7.6.21 is that the CPU usage is about 1 core/thread, that is, example a 4-core processor, 8 logical processors, the CPU as seen in Task Manager will be about 12%...

Re: 4070ti low power usage...

I am getting frequent assignment of 18717 recently, or at least I am noticing it now. On 3080 Ti, I usually get 8M PPD? (lar says 6M). On the 2080 Super, I usually see 3M. For project 18717, I am seeing 6M PPD on the 3080 Ti and 1.5-1.8M on the 2080 Super. It seems to be steady on the 3080Ti and flu...

Re: v8.1.18 Performance Observations

I ran the 8.x beta briefly on my Raptor Lake system. I believe it was correctly using the P and E core. that is, in dividing work according to ability, instead of threads on the P cores being slowed down by the rate of work on the E cores. With 7.6.21, I was seeing erratic PPD due to uneven core loa...

Re: Faulty RTX 3080?

I got the EVGA RTX3080 Ti in Aug 2021. At some point it started to hang? periodically, it would complete a WU, but never complete the upload or start the next WU. none of my other cards do this. This might be correlated to a Windows update requiring a restart, but not always. I have had a RTX2080 Ti...

Re: RTX 4090 is getting 26M PPD

it's too bad that we do not have PPD for both fixed project (true) and specific unit (no control?) at each of several fixed frequencies instead of Power (W). The expectation is that performance per unit frequency falls as frequency increases even though performance does increase, just somewhat less ...

Re: Alder Lake results

Alder Lake i5-12600K, 6 P cores, 4 E cores, 16 logical, running Fah with 14 threads, seems to be doing 240K, so this is curious

Re: Alder Lake results

running with 8 threads, CPU/OS seems to put the active threads one on each of 8 P cores, good for 140-150K PPD. at 16 threads, PPD seems to be higher but not guaranteed to run one thread per each of the P logical processors, with FaH at 16 threads, and Fah affinity set to the 16 P logical, currently...

Re: Alder Lake results

Windows 11. I will look into this later. right now, the 12900 machine is off. I have just upgraded to power supply on this system to 1000W and will wait to get a 4090. My intent is to run just the GPU and the CPU contribution is too low to be of interest. the 10850 has a 3080Ti. frequently on reboot...

Re: Alder Lake results

my Alder Lake 12900K seem to do 90K PPD running on all P & E cores, come with 270K PPD for Comet Lake 10850K 10-core, I think my Tiger Lake system is 180K. this is very much at odds with what is on folding.lar.systems. I may be running at less than full power

agree with Neil-B, I suggest running GPU-Z to check temp, etc. and MSI afterburner
