Re: Recommended Linux Installation & Configuration
Tried that and fahcontrol installs. But I can’t see to even find fahclient now, and reinstalling it doesn’t help. Probably I am missing something trivial. FAHcontrol runs but can’t connect with a client or anything...

Re: Recommended Linux Installation & Configuration
Gave up on Ubuntu and installed Mint 20. Now fahcontrol won’t install:
Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: python-gtk2|python-gnome2
Lovely. Now to see if someone’s given a fix already.

Re: Recommended Linux Installation & Configuration
My Ubuntu box was running 18.04 and stopped working properly after a live upgrade. Then when I shut it down before Tropical Storm Isaias (unnecessary: didn’t lose power in my part of Florida) I could no longer get it to boot. After many failed attempts I finally got Ubuntu 20.04 to work with nVidia ...

Re: GPU Work Units 13416 - Nvidia 2080TI not being fully use
13416 units usually use either of my RTX 2060 cards pretty well. A 2080ti just might be overkill (some tables of GPU performance note that some WUs cannot use a 2080ti effectively). Maybe with the new generation of GPUs, GPU abilities and WUs will be matched better. It’d be rather disappointing for ...

Re: Shortage of GPU work again?
I seem to have my two RTX2060 cards busy almost constantly, though the PPD has gone from ridiculously high levels (2.7 to 2.9 million) to lower than usual (1.7 million), to nearer normal (somewhat over 2 million up to 2.5). Nowadays I just shrug it off and wait for better times...

Re: Linux, Nvidia GPU & PCIe 4x?
This thing has two old 6-core Xeons. I'm thinking of running up to 4 GPU cards and using the Xeons only to tend the GPUs at full PCIe 3.0 x16 bandwidth, no attempts to fold. I'm hoping that the new GPUs supposedly coming out starting in September will include some RTX 2080ti-speed ones that cost les...

Re: Linux, Nvidia GPU & PCIe 4x?
Do let us know! :) If I go through with it, I will. Probably I’ll post blow-by-blow accounts. I bought one. It finally arrived yesterday. It's... big. I think I'll just make sure it works, using assorted old parts I have in a temporary setup on a box in the style of Linus Tech Tips videos. Maybe tr...

Re: project 13416 high wu failure rate
Getting insanely high estimated PPD from 13416 running on two RTX 2060 cards, like 3.5 million/day... maybe there's a bonus given for higher chance of failure?

Re: What parts of a GPU card can be used for FAH?
Yes. There are some Zotac (not a brand I trust) mining cards with P106 showing up on eBay under US$50 delivered, straight from China. Apparently 75W power. I don’t think they’re good PPD/watt, apart from everything else.toTOW wrote:Be careful, P106-90 is a 1050 ... P106-100 is a 1060 ...

Re: Linux, Nvidia GPU & PCIe 4x?
I used to fold on an old Xeon processor, 20 threads, that can be gotten for $65, and motherboards for like $50, and DDR3 was super cheap, like $40 for 2x4GB. It's just not worth it. 20 'fast' cores (at 2,5Ghz) vs 500-5000 slower cores (GPU), and the choice is clear. Yes. Two mid-range GPU cards (RT...

Re: Linux, Nvidia GPU & PCIe 4x?
These are 6C/12T CPUs and you would have two of them: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... l-qpi.html Those 20 threads would certainly fold quite well! Depends on my power bill. Also the board comes with heat sinks on the CPUs that don't look as if they have fans. Maybe perching a fan on eac...

Re: Linux, Nvidia GPU & PCIe 4x?
That was me and it's still on offer: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Supermicro-Ser ... cf15f01599 The board: https://www.supermicro.com/products/mot ... -LN4F_.cfm It's tempting to buy one and just see if I can get my two 2060s to run unrestricted on it, then try to add a third GPU card. A bit power-hung...

Re: Linux, Nvidia GPU & PCIe 4x?
Is this about PCIe 4.0 or about x4 bandwidth on PCIe 3.0 or 2.0? It`s about me trying to get FAH to run on some older Supermicro mobos. For this case, the problem slots were two 8x slots running at PCIe 2.0 x4. I`ve scrapped the idea for now, too many problems. Ah. Someone suggested a Supermicro on...
