Re: Found an old machine and want to fold with it
Ubuntu 18.04 lts is working without problem for me! Great tutorial by MeeLee. I followed and it worked like a charm. Just don't upgrade to 20.04! viewtopic.php?nomobile=1&f=16&t=31595 I upgraded to 20.04 after an update broke things, and couldn’t get things to work with my two GPUs the way ...

Re: RTX 3000 Preliminary price/performance (estimated)
3080 with a factory “hybrid” setup (water loop to a radiator) perhaps? I think I saw a picture of one; can’t recall the brand.

Re: New RTX3xxx cards
I was under the impression that Ampere tensor hardware has some FP32 and FP64 units. Or am I confused?

Re: Cost Benefits to Environment on Old Hardware
This condo in south-ish Florida usually has the air conditioning at 76F (about 24.5C) when I’m at home, and off or at 84F when I’m not. In winter it often needs heating, and that’s electric anyway. If I upgrade my folding rig, maybe the older hardware can be cobbled together to run intermittently on...

Re: New RTX3xxx cards
Are the cards running that hot because you're letting NVidia control the fan curves? If you don't intervene that's what NVidia will do - run them up to 82C. My 1070s never go much above 25C over ambient but that's what water-cooling will get you. I’m running Ubuntu 18.04 (can’t get things to work u...

Re: New RTX3xxx cards
Indeed. I have two dedicated folding rigs that do nothing else. They both use Phanteks P600S cases. One has a 280 and a 420 and one has a 280 and a 240. I'm strongly considering getting two 3070's and replacing the three 1070s and TitanX which together produce around 3.5-4m ppd and consume about 70...

Re: New RTX3xxx cards
It looking like not old CUDA cores with FP32, it looking like Shader Cores with core count based on FP16 gaming rendering. So FP32 compute performance wouldn't be doubled compared to previous gen, but will have some x1.2-1.4 bump. F@H using single precision FP32, not half precision FP16. But if it'...

Uh... I don't suppose they could sell chips with defective ray-tracing and tensor sections disabled for special-edition FAH cards?
Probably not. Oh, well.

Re: Mining board with 8x zotac p106
I am ruining two MSI P106-100 on an ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ MB. I had a Celeron G3930. Plan is purchase some used 2060 cards once the 3000 series come out. I’m content with a 2060 and a 2060 KO on one motherboard, but one is on a PCIe 3.0 x8 and the other on a 3.0 by x4. The x4 seems to slow it down a...

Re: covid moonshot bad wu setup
Getting lower points today (compared with the past week or two) on Moonshot WUs that take just over 3 hours on either my RTX 2060 or my RTX 2060 KO. Which is fine. I was usually getting near 3,000,000/day on mostly Mooonshot WUs; now it’s looking like roughly 2,500,000. I thought that the bigger fig...

Re: New RTX3xxx cards
I don’t know when I’ll upgrade. I started in April (after many years not folding) with an RTX 2060 and added an RTX 2060 KO. 300 watts typically for running on those. Better performance/watt will be the big incentive. Hoping that AMD will provide competition and keep prices sane. Heard a rumor that ...

Re: covid moonshot bad wu setup
On my RTX 2060 and RTX 2060 KO (installed on the same motherboard) these COVID Moonshot units usually take just over 3 hours each and I’m usually credited about 200,000 points each. I think that’s a bit too generous but I’m not complaining. I have no clue whether all this is reasonable. If I were se...

Re: SSD drives
Out of laziness and a childish desire for speed and simplicity, I fitted my dedicated F@H rig built in April with only a 256MiB M.2 card. I barely use it except for folding. We’ll see what happens.

Re: Recommended Linux Installation & Configuration
Reverted to Ubuntu 18.04 and didn't install third-party software or automatic login and... after the incantations from LTT that I did before, back in April, it... seems to work fine, after a week idle.
Awaiting some new horror. But we'll see. Thanks for all help and suggestions.
