PCIe Slot Speed - x1 x2 x4 x8 x16
The ”What PCIe slot speed is needed” discussions should be put to rest, so if some people with one of those newer fancy motherboards, with the ability to set PCIe slot speed in BIOS, could take the time to do some testing on that and post the numbers here, that would be great. Preferably multiple pe...

… and with respect Sparkly a slight attitude adjustment on your part towards someone trying to help/engage from another perspective to yours might be advised? … Disagreeing fine, choosing to ignore fine, comments bordering on belittling and insulting don't sit well within the forums and are unneces...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
Soarky, I am trying to... Your assumptions and bla bla isn’t even worth spending the time to comment on in more detail, since you clearly have no clue what you are talking about, and you have no useful real life numbers regarding any of this to contribute, so maybe you should take a trip over to Gi...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
You don't seem to get that the consideration, whether or not to assign a project to GPU or CPU doesn't only depend on the atom count. A CPU can DIFFERENT types of processing / calculations which the GPU can't do. A GPU is again better at doing other types of calculations than a CPU. Those factors p...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
Take 4 WUs: 10k, 30k, 100k, 300K atoms. and assign them to 4 GPUs with 192, 640, 2000, 4500 shaders. Gather data for all 16 trials. Well, the numbers for 2k shaders is already available here, since the RX 580 has 2304 and the RTX 2060 Super has 2176, but the shader count doesn’t really give a very ...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
The assignment system does not work the way, nor have the features you appear to think it does. I don’t get what features you think I am talking about that is missing, since the thing I describe is already happening and being used, where the projects are assigned/made to run as CPU, GPU or both (vi...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
Sparky, you only take into consideration the atom count in your reasoning. What about the different processing abilities, not just performance, between GPU & CPU? As far as I can see from all my logs, running GPU projects in several different systems, the ONLY factor that so far has had a signi...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
True, and that makes sense to me. In fact, I suspect that's the way it normally works. Well, I don’t know what is normal, or if the atom count is a deciding factor when doing distribution, since I see everything from 4K to 500K atom count in my GPU logs, but as far as I can also see in the logs, th...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
What do you mean by assigning those projects to CPU in the first place? What characteristics should a system have to get that assignment? Clearly the atom count is know by the people making the projects, so the projects with low atom count can be assigned to a7 or equivalent core exclusively from t...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
Doing some RAM testing on the systems, so have upgraded from Single Channel to Dual Channel and put more RAM in both systems: System 1 – G4400 and 5 cards From 4GB Single Channel to 8GB Dual Channel System 2 – i5-6600 and 7 cards From 4GB Single Channel to 16GB Dual Channel System 1 got a 10-15% PPD...

Re: 155.247.166.220 downloads stalled
Was good for a couple of days, but now it is the same again, so maybe someone should try to make a more permanent fix than just rebooting the server.

Re: 155.247.166.220 downloads stalled
This issue is still occurring a lot on this Server/IP – 155.247.166.220 by the looks of it and as far as I can see from my setups, which are currently running 12 slots total, it happens several times a day for me alone, thus needing a reboot of the process, since there is no recovery and the slot ha...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
AFAIK, there' hasn't been a chart of RAM usage VS Project. However, the closest approximation would be based on atoms in a project which can be found here: https://apps.foldingathome.org/psummary?visibility=ALL you will need to sort on atoms and then focus only on OPENMM_21 and OPENMM_22 as those a...
